A Levels Results Day “be prepared, be sure, be confident and reach for the stars!” says leading Principal
On Thursday 17th August more than 800,000 students will receive their long-awaited #alevel results.?How they react on that day will shape their future.?
Christine Cunniffe , Principal of LVS Ascot , advises “prepare yourself for results day, and have a plan B if you do not achieve your offers”.
She has already encouraged her students to take control and pursue the undergraduate path that they are passionate about.?“This will drive you to succeed and make the learning experience enjoyable and fulfilling”.
If a student still has doubt about their selected course Christine says, “use this time to browse the UCAS clearing website and consider other options”.
On the day itself, “it is easy to be influenced by others”, she adds.?“Keep as calm as possible and focus on what YOU want to do”.
If you do need you need a plan B, “seek advice from your teachers, and get on the phone to UCAS as places go quickly.?And remember they will only talk to you”.
Sometimes the required grade takes a little longer to achieve.?“A year in a young person’s life is a very short - retaking may secure the choice that you really aspire to.”
Christine is eagerly anticipating the results of her Year 13 girls and boys, based on frequent test and more mocks than ever.
“Forecasts indicate we should see a great set of grades.?The vast majority will achieve or exceed their targets.”
And remember, she says “students can also clear upwards if they achieve higher than expected grades.”
“Results day is always emotional.?Students meet our staff and their cohort to celebrate success, and bring closure to this chapter in their education.”
But with two years of study and preparation behind them they can “be confident and reach for the stars,” she concludes.

“There is a degree of flexibility in the college sector” says Rochester Principal. Alistair Brownlow, in this video
Sixth Form colleges can create a “bespoke roadmap” for each student
If a student is in the middle of a two-year A Level or IB programme and having doubts about the route that they are on, #sixthform Colleges have the flexibility to help.?
“Sometimes students come to us on very short intensive one-year courses,” says Alistair Brownlow , Principal of Rochester Independent College in Kent, part of Dukes Education .
“In the course of seven or eight months we have to make sure they are on the right track,” he says.
“One of the things we do really well at #Rochester, he explains, “is to look at each individual student who comes to us and try to create a bespoke roadmap that's specific to them.”
The college reviews their subject choices with them to ensure that they have “the right portfolio of subjects for their university application.”
While the vast majority of Rochester students are on two-year programmes, he reassures that “there is a degree of flexibility in the college sector which is one of our hallmarks.”

Crispin Dawson , Principal of Padworth College explains in this video that they offer accredited Foundation programmes as well as traditional A Levels
Foundation courses often “better fit for international students”
More students from overseas are opting for #foundation programmes as an alternative to the traditional A Level or International Baccalaureate as a route to university, according to Betty Dagistan , Director of Global Engagement at Padworth College .
Padworth’s NCUK - University Pathways accredited programme is “proving increasingly popular because it is an international programme designed for international students and also completed in one year,” she says.

The other attraction is that “our #NCUK foundation is equivalent to three A levels and carries the same academic rigour as A levels.”
Many universities themselves offer a foundation programme, however, Betty adds “students prefer Padworth because we are smaller and we can therefore provide tailored support for each student.”
The added advantage is that “it’s now recognised by more than 40 leading universities worldwide including 英国伯明翰大学 , 英国布里斯托大学 , 英国杜伦大学 , University of Exeter and 英国曼彻斯特大学 .”
The four most popular programmes at Padworth College are #Business, #Engineering, #Humanities and #Science.
