Levelling up in Business Design: Intro
Those who have known me a long time know that that I have an inner arty core, which was kind of muted from spending a long time in industry functions which relied deductive, logical thinking. Creativity was possible, but I sometimes struggled to sell new ways of doing things to people I worked with. It was not like my colleagues were uncreative, I suspect the problem was that I did not have the thinking tools which got results dependably. Besides I am grateful for learning those styles pf thinking and working too. Nevertheless, having been conditioned that way therefore, I was sure I wanted to learn new ways of thinking when I entered Rotman but I was not sure I wanted to specialize in Business Design.
So it was lucky that starting January I encountered Business Design 3 times, each time in increasing intensity. The very first encounter was 4 months ago in early January when Business Design Club hosted a flagship workshop to teach the basic process of BD to those of us unfamiliar with it. The second and more detailed foray occurred when I took BD Fundamentals as one of my electives. I enjoyed that class, but felt a constant nagging in the back of my head that I while I had the knowledge but I needed to work on my skills. So, I signed up for the BD practicum, held in first two weeks of May in what we call an intensive at Rotman.
I had expectations and apprehensions before entering each of these experiences, yet I always came out the other end, surprised at myself and wanting more. The learnings from every experience were further reinforced in new and unexpected ways at the next encounter. All told, I experienced a series of level ups in BD like an exciting video game. I am publishing this series to share my journey and learnings from this little adventure within the MBA universe.
Creating alignment. Navigating uncertainty. Masterminding potential futures. Realizing possibility.
