Levelling of the Machine Tool.

We visit many machine shops to conduct Laser Calibration and Ballbar Diagnostic Test of their machines.

We observed that many customers don’t know about the importance of the machine levelling and how to do correct levelling.

It is very important that all the times machine level is to be maintained within the limits as per recommended by machine tool manufacturer.

Machine level frequently changes due to

I)                   Deformation in the machine structure ( Stresses and strains change with age )

II)                 Deformation in the area where machine is kept.

What is level of the machine tool?

Levelling is to make flat and even surface parallel to the surface of a body of still water, the earth's gravitational field.

There are two main types of Levels, Spirit Levels and Electronic Levels. It is very important to adjust the initial ‘ZERO’ of the precision level before each use.

We find that the person, who is doing the levelling of the machine even don’t know procedure to adjust the initial ‘ZERO’.

It is very important to know the scientific usage of the precision spirit level otherwise one may land in trouble.

All further accuracies depend upon correct levelling of the machine tool.
