"Confessions of a chef" posed the following question. I`m sorry but... We have to lay you off. How do you go about it? The response was remarkable and a worthwhile read on so many levels. My contribution,
Its one of the toughest decisions for anyone to do and carry out. Each situation is different and needs to be handled accordingly. Honesty is the best policy. In businesses where it was a business decision, and not performance based, being reasonable, having empathy and understanding for the person and helping them to find something and showing you genuinely care about them goes a long way. On the other hand when its performance based, endless one on one sessions to turn it around, guidance, communication, feedback and being respectful to improve performance is paramount. If the individual chooses to deviate form the guidance and support, continually under performs then its a matter of highlighting all documented measures taken to keep them on board, the outcome being inevitable.
I kept it brief and to the point. You just never know when you may cross paths, the circumstances could be very different. A few years ago I had to let someone go (business decision) they were highly skilled, it was emotional. I did as much as I could to assist in opportunities. The best part is, we have remained good friends and are very respectful of each other.

7 年In order for one door to open to you another had to close and, as they say, every bad for good. The roads in life are very strange and the greatest things come to you by chance or when you least expect them. I suppose you need faith and great will, and that every effort you make sooner or later comes to light. The decision were OK, which proved to be correct, given that you are still friends and respect each other, and maybe that's exactly what brought him or will bring even more professional success and career in times to come. You never know behind which corner happiness is waiting for you ...: D
