Letting Go, Moving On, and Embracing Change

Letting Go, Moving On, and Embracing Change

I just wrapped up five great years as Chief People Officer at a global professional services firm and I am looking for my next chapter. When I tell most people, they apologize and say they are sorry.? But I view this change in a very different way. Change brings growth and renewal. Just as leaves change color as part of their natural life cycle, career transitions are a natural part of professional growth and allow us to make room for something new.?

Most people fear job changes, which is very understandable—we have bills to pay, responsibilities, and family that depend on us. But this time in a career path can be very exciting if you focus on the new opportunities that lie ahead. For me, a new career opportunity will give me the chance to meet new people, become immersed in a new business, and contribute to the success of a new company. It’s also one of the best ways to build your skillset.?

I have also learned that change means letting go of old ways of doing things if you want to transform a part of your life. Trees shed their leaves each Fall to make room for their Spring awakening.? If you find yourself in a career transition, it might be time to embrace new ideas, new ways of thinking about your profession and where you can make a difference.

I know that the right Chief People Officer role is out there for me, and I’m open to wherever my search may take me—small or medium sized companies, Boston or Rhode Island, healthcare technology or another industry making a difference in the world.

In the meantime, I am going to enjoy watching my leaves change color to make room for what is next.??? ?

Great article and perspective Bonnie! I have no doubt your next chapter will be great...can't wait to see where it takes you!

The analogy to trees shedding their leaves is powerful, as it underscores the importance of making room for renewal and evolution, and embracing change. Your positive attitude about career transitions resonates with me. It encourages me to perceive it as a self-exploratory learning and transformative experience.
