A Letter on Worry

Dear worriers,
A good friend of mine asked me yesterday, "aren't you worried about your business right now?".
I know she meant it out of the goodness of her heart. She wanted to check in on me and make sure that I was okay.
The first thing I thought was, crap. Am I supposed to be worried?! Are we all supposed to be worried right now?
The simple answer I have for her and for everyone out there is no, I'm not worried.
Feeling worried about the situation right now as it relates to my business hasn't even crossed my mind, to be honest.
And at first, I felt a little bit guilty.
I thought, how completely out of touch with reality am I that I'm not worried? Like, am I crazy?
Then I remembered, I can be worried at any time. There doesn't have to be a pandemic.
And logically, if I can be worried at any time, I can be not worried at any time.
Hear me out : Most of us have been taught that happiness is actually choice by now. We hear it from therapists on TV, Esther Perel, our moms, whoever.. (and if you haven't, happiness is a choice. There, now you know.)
Being worried is a choice, too.
You can choose to be worried at any time you want.
You could have chosen to be worried in January. You could choose to be worried again this Summer and Autumn and Winter and next Spring, and for the rest of your life if you want to.
The excuse you're making to be worried right now is that there is a pandemic.
Think about the facts: how likely is the worst case scenario in your mind right now? Now think about that worst case scenario and really go there. What would you do if the absolute worst thing you could imagine happened?
Chances are, you would be okay in the end.
Terrible things can happen to us at any time, not just during a pandemic.
So if we use this time right now as an excuse to be worried, we can use it as an excuse to not do a lot of things: Like not find a job that is more meaningful to us. Like not stand up for ourselves to our sh*tty bosses. Like not set boundaries. Like stay somewhere we're not happy. Like not start our own business we've been wanting to start for years. Like take a really low salary.
You can choose whatever excuse you want at any time to do or not do whatever you want.
My question to you is:
How long do you want to do that for?
How long do you want to keep making excuses?
How long do you want to let worry control your life decisions?
People right now during the pandemic are starting new jobs that make them really happy that pay them more.
I'll say that again.
People right now during the pandemic are starting new jobs that make them really happy that pay them more.
If that's hard for you to believe, that is why you do not have it.
If you're ready for a change, let's talk about how to create that for you. You can book a call with me here. I'll be ready whenever you are.
Just remember, you are exactly where you need to be.
Sending you so much love,
Arielle
