A letter to myself from 9/11
If I found solace and a reason to shut my eye at the unveiling of the morning of 10/11/19. it was because of this lines ‘A mistake should be your teacher, not your attacker. A mistake is a lesson, not a loss. It is a temporary necessary detour, not a dead-end’.
All I could do was think ‘What is my logistics nightmare? I was sad and disgusted. This was just not just an event but an opportunity to interact with the best brains and establish a value-oriented relationship and a symbiotic alliance that we could drive on to our flagship event for the year. ‘TMES 19: PLAY LAGOS’
Logistics is not just about moving products and people but it’s from proving services and commitment to assurance for everyday activities that make our life smoother and better organized.
It was not just the brand I represent that was on the line but my personal commitments to best practice and global standards of value.
As an Operations personnel I was taught and was even punished with the perception that ‘I don’t have an assigned duty but my job is to make sure everyone does their job with best standards’, so a team mistake is my cross and their victory is a reflection of my push, skills and constant plug movements behind the scenes. I am not just sorry that the events that brought me closer to the best brains did not work but I am sorry that as an Operations person I disappointed myself.
My pledge and mantra into maturity are ‘if it’s worth my effort, it must show outstanding finesse in execution’ My logistics nightmare cost me my sleep on 9/11/19.
Please, let’s rendezvous again and have conversations that will make our nightmares turn into opportunities for not just a brighter smile but a path to solving the general African challenge with a path to making revenue.
