A letter to my board on our 2nd birthday
2 years ago i released a video on social media that started a mental health movement, and changed my life forever. Heart On My Sleeve is now one of the fastest growing organisations in the mental wellbeing space, and I took some time to reflect on what we have achieved so far in 24 months since it's inception. Here is what i wrote to my board as a reflection and thanks for everyone who has got us to this point:
Together we have:
- Built a social organisation of substance and impact. With a clear mission, vision, services offering, pricing, operational framework etc. to sit alongside the social movement.
- Increased social media channels to 30K followers
- Built a mental health training program called “REAL Conversations” that’s been deployed to 2,300 people at KPMG and a national roadshow with leaders at KPMG, Microsoft and more (averaging 9/10 rating)
- Coached an individual to get up in front of her entire company at Dimension Data and tell a story of abuse and cancer survival for the first time ever
- Formed a partnership with LiveTiles to create an AI bot for mental health augmentation
- Hosted our first international session in Singapore
- Got a HOMS advocate in national parliament
- Recognised as a leading cause by GQ @ Gentleman awards
- Piloted pledge day and pledge cards successfully
- Formed relationships with leading mental health influencers, companies, NFP’s, stakeholders across the country
- Built a mental health peer support program called “REAL Mates” that is innovating beyond Mental Health First Aid to create custodians within organisations and society
- Built an evolution of the brand to HOMS 2,0
- Board position on Superfriend
- Presented at industry events like UNLTD, OneDoor national Psychology symposium,
- Received $25K commitment funding from high net worth individual
- Created a podcast that charted at #1 on iTunes in the Health Category at launch called “REAL Talk” in partnership with Nova Entertainment including interview with world leading experts like Dr Dan Brown & Dr Dan Siegel
- Registered as a charity with DGR1 status
- Piloted a HOMS Day at Suncorp Bank
- Released a song featuring local Australian artists published on Spotify
- Received an award as a Westfield local hero
- Received a NSW government grant for technology innovation (MVP)
- Received grants from noteworthy philanthropy foundations including English Family Foundation, Perle Ventures, etc.
- Landed HOMS in curriculum at University Technology Sydney & Macleay College
- Invited into “Growth Project” for emerging charities
- 650+ people attended inaugural annual Black-Tie Gala Ball
- Numerous news appearances across national publications
- Countless stories from people all over the world telling us how much the HOMS platform is helping them with their journey
What I'm most proud of is how much we have done with how little resources we have. 1 person (now 1.5) in the engine room, 6 people on a board, and a lot of helpful hands hustling and grinding to make it work. All unified by a common experience and desire to end unnecessary suffering.
We are on a mission to inspire a generation to feel understood.
I am so excited for whats to come...
