Letter to JD Vance from a "cat Lady" voter

Letter to JD Vance from a "cat Lady" voter

JD Vance ,

Thank you for being open and transparent about your feelings regarding women who chose not to have children, but did choose to build companies. It will help women voters make more strategic decisions at the polls on November 5.

I believe that I fall into your category of "childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made, and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable."

I do have the physical ability to produce humans. I also have the physical ability to think critically and analytically. I opted for a life of moving money and power into the hands of women instead of staying home and rearing children. In my heart and mind, I am thrilled about the choices that I’ve made.

Given your experience in venture capital, you must know that in 2023, $170 billion was invested into US startups. Women founders received 2% of those dollars. That extraordinary gender disparity was in large part due to pattern matching .?

When I became aware of the extreme gender inequity in the tech and startup space, I decided to build a company that would increase the number of women starting up scalable companies and help them secure investment to grow.?

In short, I built The Startup Ladies to conquer sexism in the startup space.

My company has helped thousands of women (and people of every gender) over the last ten years startup, scale up, and secure hundreds of thousands of dollars in “first money.”?

I’ve also written 37 articles that have been published by the Indianapolis Business Journal that cover topics like women in business, startups, technology, mental health, and LGBTQ+ issues.

As a very proud member of the LGBTQ+ community, and activist for women and children, I’ve spent countless hours on boards, volunteering, and donating to organizations that stand up and speak out for the most marginalized people around the world.

While I’m really more of a dog lady, you did get one thing right, I do feel “miserable” at times. However, those feelings of anger and sadness are caused by misogynists like you.

If fellow Americans become miserable because women like me hold legislators like you accountable for your words and actions, then I guess it’s not really the “cat ladies” who are causing all the problems - it’s you.?

Your views are not just paleoconservative, they are in conflict with one another.

  • You can’t honor your Mamaw while degrading women.
  • You can’t be for small government and want to govern peoples’ bodies.
  • You can’t build up the middle class if you don’t tax the rich.
  • You can’t scale companies without opening doors to smart people outside the US.
  • You can’t build innovative teams if you “don’t like outsiders or people who are different from us, whether the difference lies in how they look, how they act, or, most importantly, how they talk.”
  • You can’t discriminate against LGBTQ+ people and lead them. We won’t follow you.
  • You can’t support a convicted felon and run on a platform of integrity.
  • You can’t unite a country if you hate its citizens.
  • You can’t lead a republic if your are a fascist.
  • You can’t get smart women who choose not to have children, but do choose to build successful companies to vote for you.

Your immaturity, ignorance, and bold faced misogyny truly disqualify you from any kind leadership position, let alone the Vice President of the United States.?

In much better spirits now,

Kristen Cooper, Startup Lady

Bravo Kristen Cooper! Thank you for this transparent and empowering article. As a fellow woman founder, I resonate deeply with your message and your advocacy for feminine leadership in spaces that have historically lacked representation. I am so grateful that there are women like you in our world. We have chosen to channel our abilities into building businesses that create meaningful impact and empower others. The extreme gender disparity in venture capital and entrepreneurship affects us all, and I appreciate how you are addressing it head-on. Your work with The Startup Ladies is genuinely inspiring, and I share your commitment to creating more opportunities for women founders to thrive. I believe feminine leadership—grounded in collaboration, empathy, and strength—can transform businesses and communities. It’s encouraging to know we are in this together, working toward a future where women can lead and innovate with purpose and passion regardless of their personal choices. In solidarity and support, Nina
