A letter from you

A letter from you

I’m writing this post reeeeally quickly. You know why? Because I’m busy. Not hey-look-how-important-I-am busy, but genuinely-Oh-God-help-me slammed. I’m building a team at lostmy.name to make amazing, meaningful, valuable marketing/product *things*, but that team doesn’t really exist yet. I mean, there are two of us. But one of us is writing this blog post, so, well, you get the idea. If you are a mega talented designer, developer, project manager or ‘creative misfit’ and are massively ambitious you might want to read the following. If it resonates, get in touch.

If you could have written the following, I want to hear from you:

‘I work at an agency.
I’m pretty damn good at what I do, but am increasingly feeling that I want to not have clients. Not that I don’t like clients?—?I have some brilliant ones. But I want to just get on and make things in a small, autonomous team. I don’t want to spend half my energy ‘selling things in’. I’m ready to find out what it’s like to be my own client?—?to write my own briefs, try things, live!?—?I mean, put them online, see what happens and change things if it’s not working. To come up with brave ideas, weigh up the risk and cost or trying them and finding out once and for all if I’m as capable as I think I am.
I want to make things that are meaningful. I don’t want to sell fizzy drinks or alcohol, or spend all my time spitting transient messages into the Internet. I want to make things that matter; that bring joy to people; that make me proud to have been a part of. Maybe this move will expose my weaknesses, but that’s better than never finding out, because I will grow. I want to be part of something amazing and feel like I can make it even better. I’m ready!’

That is a crackling good message. Whoever wrote that has a new fan. I hope one year later, that energy is still evident and the north star that leads the troops.
