A letter from Nisisi

A letter from Nisisi

"Nisisi" is a Swahili word for "It is us". The business aims to create products by Kenyans for Kenyans that shows who we are to the world. The Nisisi Factory is a story born out of hope, grit and determination. Hope that we can dare to create something beautiful, grit because we are willing to put in the work and determination because despite and in spite of circumstances, we wake up every day, open our doors and continue to work.

The driving force behind Nisisi is not in the business of making bags (although we do make our bags to our highest ability), it is in the community that we are continuously growing and hopefully impacting. We are creating a community that will enjoy designing, creating and using our products. We, therefore, try to achieve this through 3 specific impact centres:

1. The impact on our customers:

Our relationship with our customers begins when we start to conceptualise our bags. By truly putting ourselves in the shoes of our customers, we can then create something that will be useful to them at a price point that is comfortable for them. We also source the highest quality fabrics at that price point, listen carefully to feedback and make sure everything they get next will be better.

2. The impact on our craftsmen:

We respect that they have knowledge and expertise that all our contracted craftsmen have. The reason we contract as opposed to having them on full time is that we would like them to grow their own businesses separately from us and impact people far beyond our reach. We believe that good work should not only be experienced but passed on to as many people as possible. We practice #fairtrade with all our craftsmen. We only work with those who have created a conducive environment for their workers and also provide fair wage. We also pay them what is expected for each piece as expected.

3. The impact on our country's image:

At Nisisi, we believe our country has a lot to offer not only to external markets but to internal markets. We want people to know that what we present to the world is good quality and can compete with any other product from any other country. By investing in ourselves, we are able to stand by our products with pride.

We hope you will join ur community in this journey.

Carry us with you wherever you go!!
