A letter from Dr. Michelle Longmire on the arrival of Medable Studio

Today Marks a Big Milestone For Team Medable?

During my residency training and later as a faculty member at Stanford, I was driven by a deep motivation to better understand complex rare diseases, with the ultimate goal of alleviating suffering. My research was focused on systemic sclerosis, a devastating autoimmune disease. In our multidisciplinary clinic, patients traveled from around the globe, seeking access to new research, investigational therapies, and expert care. Often, these individuals endured years of misdiagnosis, and even when correctly diagnosed, their treatment plans were outdated and lacked the benefit of recent medical advancements and research.?

Two critical insights emerged from my experience: First, countless patients would never have access to a specialized research clinic like ours. Second, understanding disease required more than sporadic clinical visits; it demanded continuous data from daily life to gain deeper insights into the disease’s drivers and the effects of investigational therapies. The same technology that had revolutionized other aspects of our lives, born in Stanford and Silicon Valley, had the potential to bridge significant gaps in healthcare and research.

Solving this problem inspired the founding of Medable. The goal: accelerate the pace of medical progress by connecting patients around the world with researchers and cutting-edge therapies.?

The journey has been far more challenging than we ever imagined. Yet, our mission has fueled our unwavering determination. As an entrepreneur, you quickly learn that hard problems take far more time to solve than expected. Hard problems have many layers: an initial understanding leads to an initial solution, but it’s the deeper understanding—earned through hard-fought experiences—that reveals the scalable solutions.

This is what makes today especially sweet for me, the entire Medable team, and our partners. Today, we are proud to announce the release of our new product, Medable Studio.

Medable Studio is designed to drive innovation and serve customers at scale. This solution leverages our deep understanding of the complex challenges associated with eCOA and digital trials. Studio allows for the rapid configuration and global deployment of protocol-specific digital solutions, accelerating clinical trial initiation and enabling earlier patient enrollment. By building on years of experience with our platform, we've enhanced our architecture to support rapid innovation. These improvements empower us to deliver high-quality solutions more quickly than ever before.

Our team at Medable is dedicated to addressing the challenges facing clinical research with innovative technology. We have been steadfast in our commitment to rigorously evaluate the impact of our innovation in an effort to truly understand what moves the needle most. Throughout our journey, we have learned how to innovate more effectively. Success in innovation requires partnership and demands iteration, close collaboration, and a willingness to engage deeply with the complexities at hand. We cannot thank our committed partners enough for being in the trenches with us and staying by our side through the journey, even when it felt impossible.

Success in innovation also requires scaling solutions once they are proven to solve the hard problems. We have analyzed trial designs and outcomes across therapeutic areas and geographies. We have innovated to address bottlenecks and pain points, and shed light into black boxes - all in an effort to develop a product that delivers proven value and innovation at scale, and to develop a product that accelerates our mission.?

I often liken our company culture to that of a sports team: we are driven by a shared desire to win, and to win together. For us, winning means achieving our mission to enable effective therapies to reach patients faster. The journey to launching Studio has been a years-long effort, rooted in teamwork, and one that started long before the product concept even existed. My deepest thanks to every Medaballer for your relentless dedication - over the years - to achieve this monumental goal.
