The Letter

Recently I was asked if I could put together a short description of The Rock Discipleship Journey for new cohorts. This got me thinking... how can I pen a short description of the discipleship journey on the back of one postcard? In short, you can't.
A bit defeated I pushed away from my desk and went home for lunch and to squeeze in a workout on Zwift (virtual cycling). While sweating it out I was watching a video by Santa Cruz Bicycles on the Stone King Rally. Yes, I was watching cycling while I cycle. As I'm sweating it out and listening/watching this video I can't help but feel like the script is describing not only the journey of exploring, mapping, and linking together trails in the Alps but it describes the journey of discipleship.
Fast forward to me back in my office and pouring over the script (via Closed Caption) and I found a way to pen a letter of discipleship for anyone (lost, searching, abandoned, new believer, and lifetime believer) to help encapsulate The Journey. Below is the letter:
Why a letter?
As you read throughout the Pauline Epistles you can't help but imagine the enthusiasm on the person's face as they receive a letter. A long-anticipated wait to hear from a fellow Christ follower. As the readers pour over the words they take in all that the writer has to say. They read and reread the letter mining for bits and pieces they overlooked.

I hope this letter will do the same for those that end up getting a copy. I encourage you to print the letter and use it as a bookmark. Read and reread it. Take time to write out the details of your journey. Describe the feelings, describe the process, and give insight and direction for future disciples to hang on to.
Final Thoughts
As one journey ends another begins. We haven't arrived yet. Fight the good fight. Keep making disciples who make disciples. Make heaven crowded!

2 年Interesting 1-pager! I would like to interview about that & another project you were involved with years ago. It changed my life in Dec 2011…and it needs to be made available to all. I understand that it had funding problems. Those can be easily resolved now.
Sitting in an airport delayed by snow as I wait for my next flight. I had time to read this through David and I agree with you totally. I try and continue to encourage my bride as she has gone through difficult times recently with her mom passing. And in the next year and a half I will be retiring and not sure what the next journey was going to be but I know I’m going to be doing something because I will drive my bride crazy if I stay at home and sip coffee all day. All kinds of ideas are running through my head, so I need to slowly categorize them and figure out what God has for me for my next journey. Thanks
