Let's Win Together

Everything in life seems to be relative. If we don’t have something we can compare or measure ourselves against, how do we know that we’re actually progressing?

This thought can be both productive, yet dangerous. When we start to think about the outcomes we want for our families and ourselves, we aren’t creating goals that are influenced by others outside of this circle. The people we’re planning for are the only ones we’ll be enjoying these successes with. Yet, why is it that our personal goals are measured against others’ goals if our personal happiness is independent of theirs?

Think about that for a second.

Our personal success is influenced by how we compete against others, there’s no arguing that. Let’s think about it this way: to get to the next level of income we desire, we have to work to earn a raise or promotion. Yet that often means being a top performer across our own team and ‘beating out the competition’. But, what if you worked hard to accomplish your own goals while finding ways for your team to win as a unit?

This concept, in my opinion, is what separates true leaders from everyone else and creates an environment where people come to work with everyone’s best interest at heart.

A productive winning mentality is not a zero sum game where for you to succeed, you have to tear others down. A truly productive winner’s mentality is one where you identify ways to empower those around you, while excelling in your job, too.

Something I learned a long time ago that has been extremely valuable to my life success is that real leaders don’t require a title or a position to make a difference or drive change. Real leaders find ways to support those around them and share their knowledge for the benefit of everyone.

The goal is to build each other up and stand united as a team - instead of alone.

This is the mentality I’ve chosen to employ in my personal and professional lives, which I often find are intertwined.

What do you think? What’s your strategy for winning in your workplace?
