Happy Wednesday everyone, I hope you’ve had a lovely week so far!
I’m writing this with a nice cup of tea, I really like this cosy time of year. We are in the lead up to Christmas now and I am so ready to put the decorations up!
Before we start I want to say a big thank you for all of the support and kind messages this month. I was really excited to announce Imogen Grace Socials and appreciate you all??
How have you been? Any fun festive plans coming up? I’d love to hear what you’re up to.
Today we’re talking about OOH marketing, transferable skills and sharing your best advice!
Let’s get started!!??
Today we’re speaking about a recent campaign from The Collective UK | B Corp?
In the lead-up to Christmas, we’re seeing big budget campaigns full of AI and technology.
I love that they have taken a playful, simple approach to launch their new adult pouches.
This is a fun campaign and I can’t wait wait to see what they do next.
What did you think?
I’m excited to welcome today’s guest, meet James Taylor . He is sharing his knowledge on transferable skills and why these are so important!??
“My name is James Taylor, a Graduate Sports Journalist, transferring my skills into the world of Brand Comms/Marketing. My message is simply: Being Employable, with Transferable skills.
The biggest piece of advice I was given was, don't limit yourself to one area! So what does that mean exactly....? Well, as someone who graduated as a 'Sports Journalist' you might be wondering: 'Why aren't you writing football reports, or editing content for mainstream sports media.' Well, the answer to that is because I was always of the view to keep my options plentiful and open to other roles, other than limiting my search.
I studied 'Transferable Skills' during my final year at University, and that inspired me to self-source work experience with Good Morning Britain and ITV Meridian, where I demonstrated an interest in current affairs. My journey into marketing hasn't exactly been seamless, with COVID being a main cause of this - which was sadly the year I graduated.
Nevertheless, I learnt a lot from COVID, as I'm sure we all did & the phrase: 'Transferable Skills' is something I'm looking to preach to my audience. It's far more than changing your career path from sports to non-sports. We all sub-consciously have transferable skills in our armour without us realising. Whether it's renewing our insurance policies, we're displaying negotiation skills. Planning our weekends we're showing organisation and time-management, playing sports is being a team-player.
Interviewers can ask you pressing questions about your experience, but sometimes we have to remind ourselves of those transferable skills. We're all a lot more skilled than we realise. I'd describe my career as an exciting adventure.? From the outset, my first job in retail bolstered my communication, communication propelled me into journalism. My communication skills led me into commercial sales. Commercial sales has navigated me into brand awareness. Brand awareness has transferred me into brand marketing. Can you see the pattern of how transferable skills have played such a pivotal role in my professional journey?? -
Your journey is unique, embrace it!”
I love the way that James has worded this and completely agree that we have so many skills that we don’t give ourselves credit for. As a freelancer, I am responsible for everything in my business from sales to client delivery all the way to finances and I love that I’ve been able to get so much experience.
Today’s advice is to be kind to yourself??
Settle down for a nice evening, treat yourself to a festive film or a book and take time to properly relax.
Don’t feel bad for taking some time to yourself. Why not see if you can think of a couple of things that you’re proud of yourself for too?
If you’re looking for Christmas film recommendations Home Alone or The Holiday are both fab options ??
(P.S. It's never too soon for Christmas films!)
Today inspired by James my post prompt is to share the best advice that you’ve received!??
This could be from a family member, a mentor or even someone that you look up to.
I look forward to reading these, please use #DiaryOfAYoungMarketer so I can come and show your post some support.
Have a lovely rest of the day??
Speak soon!
Imogen xx
