Let’s talk about ransomware.

Let’s talk about ransomware.

Ransomware can target any individual at any time. And that’s because most people don’t know what to do when faced with a ransomware attack, let alone how to prevent one from exploiting them or their business.?

If you’ve heard of ransomware but don’t necessarily know what it is, in the most simple terms, it’s a type of malware that holds data for ransom.?

Ransomware is commonly spread through phishing emails or by encouraging victims to click on an infected link or download an infected file. This allows cybercriminals to prevent victims from accessing important information on their own network, server, or device until they pay up.

What makes ransomware so dangerous is that once it’s on a device, thieves are given instant access to critical data. It’s also capable of wiping out any device in the same network, rendering them useless.?

Although the consequences of ransomware can result in devastating long-term impacts, you can avoid it by taking an effective approach to defense and prevention.?

Here are some tips:?

  • Keep your systems updated.
  • Staying up-to-date with your business’s operating systems, applications, and software will improve your overall security.?It’ll also give you an edge against cyber criminals, whose strategies are constantly advancing with technology.?
  • Actively maintain backups.
  • Carrying out regular data backups is the most effective way you can guarantee recovery from a ransomware attack. Keeping backup files protected and stored separately from your network also prevents cybercriminals’ access and can help you keep track of your data. But don’t forget to test your backups to ensure proper recovery.??
  • Educate your team.
  • Spreading awareness among your team is the key to stopping ransomware before it strikes. Your business will be better protected if everyone in the community knows how to detect and report malicious emails, increasing your network’s overall security.?
  • Implement plans and procedures.
  • Every business should have a strategy in place for handling malicious software infections, especially with ransomware attacks on the rise. Creating an action plan will prepare you and your team for what to do if ransomware strikes and will make the recovery process a lot less daunting.?

Ransomware has the potential to cause irreparable damage to your business and your livelihood. But the reality is that implementing preventative measures will help you avoid the worst case scenario, keeping your business on the path to success.?

Don’t wait. Take action and stop ransomware in its tracks.?Contact us today .?

Some times the use of Antivirus can slow down a system or if implemented enterprise wide, it can slow down traffic. Is there anything one can do to avoid or rectify this?
