Title: Miami-Dade County Approves $150,000 Federal Grant Execution for Vision Zero Dashboard and Community Liaison Pilot Project.

What? The Miami-Dade County (MDC) Board of County Commissioners approves the execution of a grant subaward agreement with the National Safety Council (NSC) and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to secure $150,000 in federal funding for the implementation of a Vision Zero Dashboard and Local Community Liaison Pilot Project. No local match is required. The MDC Department of Transportation and Public Works will oversee the administration of the grant agreement.

Why? The initiative aims to enhance traffic safety and community engagement, aligning with the Miami-Dade County Vision Zero 2021 Framework Plan and end traffic fatalities and serious injuries by 2040.

What's Changing:?

  • Vision Zero Dashboard: The project will establish an online, public-facing GIS-based website (Vision Zero Dashboard) to ensure consistent reporting among local agencies. This platform will provide real-time data on traffic-related fatalities, severe injuries, and High Injury Network (HIN) crash statistics. The goal is to facilitate coordinated efforts among agency staff, partners, and elected officials to monitor progress and align messaging.

  • Local Community Liaison Pilot Project: The initiative includes a Local Community Liaison Pilot Program focusing on the Overtown neighborhood and the West Kendall community. The program aims to strengthen relationships between community action groups and vulnerable communities. Input from these communities will be integrated into safety improvement planning, fostering a collaborative approach to traffic safety.

Background: The grant application was submitted on December 31, 2022, for the Road to Zero Community Traffic Safety grant program. The subsequent funding award of $150,000 was notified on March 14, 2023, with a time extension granted until September 2024 for project completion. The project aligns with the Vision Zero goal to eliminate traffic fatalities and serious injuries by 2040 through stakeholder collaboration and community engagement.
