I am in the IT industry since 18 years, I worked into different technical environments, from ASP to SaaS, including IaaS & PaaS.
I started in the SaaS world back in 2010 … long time ago.
Since then, I also made lots of trainings, to legal teams but also to sales teams.
At some point, I’ve been a bit amazed by the fact that people were not necessarily knowledgeable about this topic.
So, here, I want to share a very nice picture of “Pizza-as-a-Service”.
I am very often using this concept to explain what is SaaS / IaaS / PaaS.
It has the great benefit to be very clear and simple, it may also be viewed as too simple, but at least it addresses the main points to bear in mind.
In a nutshell, the traditional on-premise is some kind of “made at home”, infrastructure-as-a-service is some kind of “take and bake”, platform-as-a-service is some kind of “pizza delivered” and software-as-a-service is some kind of “dined out”.
The picture shows clearly the split between the roles: what you do as customer and what you do as provider.
If you search on Google, you will be able to find additional pictures, detailing precisely what both parties are doing/providing in the context of IT. I encourage you to elevate your knowledge on this topic.
I am currently writing a cloud dictionary, I will certainly use this concept as a basis, and if you have questions, feel free to send me a message, I will answer.
Thank you!
