Let’s talk about NORBr! ??

We share a new issue of our newsletter with our subscribers; consider it a *pull the curtains* peek at our vision when it comes to the payment landscape, how we see it evolving, and our manifesto.
The 3rd wave ????…
Let’s start at the dusk of dawn, the first wave, as you will. In the late 90's and early 00's, the first ripples in e-commerce payments were steered by a bank monopoly, including the artist formerly known as X.com, PayPal (which was, after all, the first neo-bank).
The second wave - the late 00's - gave way to the emergence of PayFacs and its cohort. They soon replaced the monopoly aided by new regulations that lowered the barrier of entry for newcomers - effectively sharing the mic ...
Fast-forward to 2021. Today, hundreds of new Payment Service Providers in the EU and thousands worldwide have cropped up, creating new consolidation processes. These consolidations allow payment mastodons to compete with GAFAM and BATX, organizations that are currently sizing up the industry as their next playground.
That’s not all. A very real third wave of innovation is also underway in Payment … Cue the rise of Meta-PSPs and Payment Orchestrators.
An age where payment is NOT a commodity, but something that became so complex and crucial for any merchant’s success that many different players must work closely together to transform a prospect into a customer.
NORBr is surfing the 3rd wave but … we’re wearing different gear ????
One size fits all… doesn’t exist in payment.
You can’t wait for Customers to come to you. You have to figure out where they are, go there and drag them back to your store.
Paul Graham
Customer acquisition might be the biggest (and most costly) challenge for Merchants. Payment constitutes the last step in the conversion process, ultimately turning prospects into Customers. Unless the right method of payment is offered to the right customer upon check-out, all the spending will have been in vain. Payment seals the deal.
However, as merchants navigate different demographics, geographic, and channel acquisition strategies - they will increasingly need to apply the same diversification when it comes to Payment Service Providers.
Take a global video streaming provider, a European DIY marketplace that want to conquer the US, and a French luxury retailer intent on entering the Russian market. Their payment approaches look as follows:
- The first one will need a robust subscription system
- The second one will need an e-Money institution for the EU market, but this institution most likely won’t have a US license
- The third merchant will need to process transactions through the Russian local scheme MIR
Gen Z will prefer a different payment method to a Boomer. Likewise, a Dutch customer might prefer iDeal whereas this option will be inapplicable to a French or Chinese customer.
Are you doing pre-sales? Is the product already in stock? Are you dealing with a third-party seller? As a merchant, your approach to managing customer payments varies. You will not rely on the same fraud prevention provider to cover you in South America, Europe, and China. Decisive variables in your Payment stack / in your payment funnel and infrastructure soon become a headache for your IT and Finance teams to create and maintain.
Payment Orchestrators’ main benefit is to relieve the merchant teams of the complexities, allowing them to focus on the customers.
We’re living in a time when payment continues to become increasingly complex yet more decisive than ever for a merchant’s success. And behind the scenes, the success is down to a number of parties that must work closely to convert buyers …

A best-in-class payment solution for merchants
We have decided to limit the number of merchants we will help in 2021, to manage our growth. We’re opening integration slots exclusively for EU and/or UK merchants with an annual turnover of more than €200M.
Sometime in the next few weeks, if you are a subscriber to our newsletter, you will receive an invitation to access NORBr.
All merchants already under MNDA can also share one of their invitations (ask them... ????)
More business opportunities, less risk, more growth!
It’s a win-win … -win
While we’re not a charity, our small team of payment industry veterans stand strong in the belief we have created something truly valuable in NORBr. The one-stop-shop for your payment stack - and the partner for merchants that has been sorely missed in the payment landscape.
We know the value we are creating. Which is why we are offering it for free.
How do we pay for the PCI DSS infrastructure we have built and reward our dedicated employees? Our ethos is based on the symbiotic relationships we build with our partners. For each dollar, euro, (renminbi, ruble or rupee...) we help generate, we pay ourselves a fraction.
Our only goal is to provide the best-in-class payment solution for merchants. We work to make your experience as enjoyable as possible, maintaining and building the best integration and support. In return our partners reward us.
And ALL partners pay the same level of commission - we will always remain neutral ??
Want to have a chat, need any clarification, or want to learn more? We have made a limited amount of integration slots available at this stage but we are available to answer your questions.
