Let's talk about money...

Money…… ?One of the three big taboo topics people universally avoid talking about (the other two are sex and power – in case you ask).

What’s the reason we don’t want to talk about money? ?

Shame.

Our worth is often tied to the amount of money we have in the bank.

That’s why we stay in the jobs we don’t like and do things we don’t enjoy. Simple really and makes sense.

A topic of money is a big part of my coaching conversations as my clients are successful people who are often ready to explore their relationship with money.

What is your relationship with money, btw? I’m curious.

I fully woke up to the power my money stories had over me when I left my corporate job.

It’s one thing selling or representing somebody else’s product, it’s a completely different ball game charging for your own services.

Every person who left their job will understand what I am talking about.

I’ve done a lot of work around my money mindset.

I’ve had some amazing coaches helping me uncover my subconscious beliefs around money.

If we don’t make money doing what we love doing – it’s not a business, it’s a hobby.

It’s important to talk about money.

We put money on a pedestal and we are often trapped in the beliefs we grew up with.

Subconsciously.

-????????? Money does not grow on trees.

-????????? You have to work hard to make money.

-????????? Money does not come easily.

-????????? Money is corrupt.

-????????? Rich people are bad.

-????????? Money is the root of all evil.

You know what I’m talking about.

I am currently very present to the question of money in my own family.

We never talked about money.

Ever.

Like ever.

I mean like ever…

No, that’s a lie. We did sometimes talk about money. In connection with how bad people with money were.

Shame.

Shame that we did not have a lot of money covered by pretending that we did not care.

?

We are currently dealing with the question of inheritance with my parents.

They are in their mid-80s and it would be great to have things in order before they pass away. I’ve learned that after my sister passed away and when my husband was diagnosed with cancer.

NOT-SO-EASY to talk with my parents about money because they still don’t want to talk about money…

Tricky to sort things out without talking about things, really.

?

And it just, once again, got me thinking about the shame that is hidden behind the topic of money.

Even within the families.

And maybe especially within the families.

?

But here is the thing.

What about if it’s not EITHER/OR situation but AND situation?

?

What about if we could have a lot of money AND be a good person at the same time? Imagine how much good you could do in the world if you had a lot of money?

What about if it was easy to make money?

What about if money was not the root of all evil?

?

Money is just money.

?

How we relate to money and what stories we carry around money is what adds meaning to money.

If we don’t add a meaning to it, it has no power over us.

It simply is.

?

Part of being a CONSIOUS and SELF-AWARE individual is understanding our triggers.
