Very interesting topic, and as has been rightly said in the article, and the comment here, this is a developing area and there is lot of room for improvement. Remember using Marklogic XML DB long time back for one of our Customers in Scientific Publishing area. Lets say when someone submits an article for publishing, how does one do 'Plagiarism check', its not easy. Searchability is another area, and then linking the documents semantically. All these, in my view, are very challenging areas, still being developed.
