Let's talk about Depression

During my last 10 years , I've suffred many times from episodes of depression. The last episode was the worst one .It lasted for more than a year and I wanted to put end to my life to put end to this pain.
So what is Depression ?
There are many definitions of depression.Personally , I could find two that fit to me.
"Depression when we smile but we want to cry.When we talk but we want to be quite.When we pretend we are happy but we are not." [1]
"Hopelessness is a cold and bleak nihilism, a sense that there is no point.The Uncomfortable Truth, a silent realization that in the face of infinity, everything we could possibly care about quickly approaches zero. Hopelessness is the root of anxiety, mental illness, and depression. Depression is a crisis of hope. It is the belief in a meaningless future."[2]
Why I'm talking about Depression ?
Because I want people around me understand what it means suffering from mental illness like depression before assuming that we are weak persons with faith crisis.I know it's always easy to judge others :)
Because I want people around me who are suffering from depression look for help before committing a suicide.
How to fight Depression?
Here I want to share with you my own experience in fighting depression :
1-Acknowledge it :) I know ,it's hard to admit it in the beginning but if you deny it,it becomes worst.
2- Ask for help :) start with your support system (Family ,Friends and Mentors) .Then it depends on the depth of your depression .For me , I had to ask for help from specialists .I started with psychologist for 6 months then he oriented me to psychiatrist .
3- Therapy with medication was necessary in my case so I took medication prescribed by my psychiatrist during 6 months .
4-Therapy by talking and sharing with my doctors (psychologist/psychiatrist) helped me identify the root causes of my depression.
5-Reading books .I recommend "Le Cri du corps" by Anne-Véronique Herter .
6-Watching TED talks and fellow specialists on YouTube .I recommend "Pensées - Psy" "Christèle Albaret" YouTube channels.
7-Accepting my emotions and practicing Meditation.
8- Creating time for my 3 hobbies : Volunteering ,Blogging and Travelling .
9-Setting boundaries with people and things around me .
10-Social Media Detox .

1- I'm working currently to raise awareness about Depression through :

- My posts from Microsoft Ignite Conference.I have more content to share about mental health that I learned during this confrence.

2- I'm working currently to differentiate what I can control and what I can't control . I try to fix things I can control and let go or accept what I can't control.
3-I'm working currently to fire toxic people with poison thoughts and content from both my real and online lives.
4-I'm working currently to experess myself as I am and experess my emotions as they are.
5-I'm working currently to identify my priorities.I have to say NO to a lot of people/ things.
6-I'm working currently to adopt healthy values .
7-I'm working currently to create a meaningful life for myself and my community.
I write this article to say you're not alone :) we are all fighting :) don't give up :)

In my opinion everyone has to face depression at least once in life, the difference depends on the circumstances, in my case the sorrow caused by the loss of my loved mom, leaving my previous job, dealing with an other type of responsibilities, all these consequences are responsible of my lack of wellbeing, overcoming is a must-do but how !!! I'm still wondering!!!

4 年Une personne qui n'a pas passé par cette période trouve qu'on est négatif, c'est pas facile de vivre en dépression mais hmdlh tt passe avec l'aide de dieu et les gens qui nous aime vraiment..Bon courage madame selma
