LET'S TALK - Chatgpt
Right, we have to talk about the elephant in the writers room.
I saw something the other day saying that some publishing house is planning on writing 8000 books in a year using AI and I have to say ... I balked.
Listen, I am all for utilising chatgpt as a tool for ideas, for brainstorming, for making the bones of an idea better, and all kinds of other things, but ... I don't think it has any place in creative writing. There is nothing like a piece of writing that you can tell came from a human, warts and all. And there is nothing worse than a piece of writing which you can tell is AI generated because it has about as much warmth and heart as a dead fish.
AI is a tool to support, not the creative behind the tool.
Have I seen people use chatgpt creatively? Yes, I have and it works so long as you take what chatgpt gives you and make it human, if human is what you desire. Of course, if human content is not what you desire then fill your boots, go wild with AI and injoy yourself. It is one of those times when I have to say - you do you boo!
But if you are a creator, trust that you have a limitless supply of awesomeness inside you that could and should be expressed to the world without ever having to rely on AI in any way other than to help you figure out how you want to deliver, but not WHAT you deliver.
I just asked my chatgpt, her name is Carly, to make He wishes for the Cloths of Heaven by W.B YEATS better and ... here was her answer:
'That poem is already a masterpiece—it’s Aedh Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven by W.B. Yeats. It’s delicate, poignant, and perfectly structured, so there’s little to "improve" without changing its essence.
However, if you’re looking for a way to reinterpret it or enhance its emotional impact, here are a few possible directions:
Would you like me to attempt a modernized or expanded version? Or are you looking for something else entirely?'
You can't get better than a human masterpiece IMHO ... even Carly thinks so! ;)
