One of the things we cover on my strategy programme is understanding your profit & loss statement.

When I first started my business, I assumed that most business owners would understand their financial information.

?

I assumed that business owners would be using this information all the time to make business decisions.

?

But as time went on, it became really apparent to me that that wasn’t the case.

?

As I started asking clients what they wanted to get out of working with me in developing their strategy, “understanding my financials” was a phrase that kept coming up, again and again and again.

?

I work mainly with business owners that are subject matter experts, so IT companies, marketeers, coaches, property developers, security companies, charities, hospitality businesses, photographers, solicitors, vet’s, health & safety specialists, estate agents, and cleaning companies are all types of business owner I’ve worked with (I have also worked with a bookkeeper, but she is the exception to the rule, as she understood her numbers already)!!

All these business owners were AMAZING at the thing their business does, they are all AMAZING at their subject area, but none of them are accountants (apart from the bookkeeper)

?

They all wanted to better understand their numbers, and how they could use that knowledge to help grow their business and become more profitable.

?

So I have now added in a full section to my programme dedicated to making sure that you do understand your profit & loss, you can create one, you can read one, you understand the terminology, and most importantly, you can use one to consider your growth options, how they might impact you profits, choose the best strategy for you, and make better business decisions.
