Hello everyone,
I took a bit of a hiatus after having my daughter, Sydney,(now 8 months) but I am starting to dip my toes back in here on Linked In.
An idea around why counting calories can keep you stuck came to me after attending a kids birthday party where I heard a few moms talk about their calorie consumption and their frustrations about losing weight. '
I felt the need to say something about it since I hear this being talked about at parties and gatherings all of the time, and it's terrible that people are left feeling so guilty about the foods they eat. So....
Here are my thoughts on the subject:
If you’ve been taught to count every calorie to lose weight and feel great, it’s time to rethink that approach.
Counting calories might seem like the key to weight loss, but it’s not the solution you need to sustain a healthy body. To break free from the yo-yo dieting cycle, my advice is to stop using calories as your primary measure of food intake.
I know, because I used to do it...
And it drove me mad! To the point where I developed a very unhealthy relationship with food.
So, what is a calorie anyway? ??
A calorie is a unit of heat energy. Specifically, it’s the heat needed to raise the temperature of 1 kilogram of water by 1 degree Celsius. This concept has been adapted to our food culture to measure energy consumption. However, this focus on calories completely overlooks the importance of food quality.

Quality Over Quantity: Yes, a calorie deficit can lead to weight loss, but only temporarily. If your body struggles to burn energy efficiently, you’ll remain trapped in the yo-yo cycle indefinitely. Remember not all calories are created equal.
Consuming 2000 calories of fast food isn’t the same as consuming 2000 calories of vegetables, quality proteins, healthy fats, and fruits.

Let’s talk about your experiences with calorie counting. Have you done it? It drove me crazy, so I’ve ditched it for good. Now, I thrive on teaching others to enjoy their food and feel great without obsessing over calories. Because let's face it. Who has time for that?

7 个月Great article, Ariel Hoffman I wrote a post highlighting a similar point of view. calorie counting becomes tedious for many people and it affects their psychology negatively sometimes. Rather than that, what they should do is, eat healthy nutritious food while also achieving a calorie deficit as much as possible. Knowing calorie deficit through intuition and body composition is a better way. It will be more sustainable that way. https://www.dhirubhai.net/posts/ganesh-kuduva-health-coach-2903457_caloriedeficit-calories-weightloss-activity-7140671703352815616-wo-C?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop
