Let's talk about Bodily injury claims across Europe
Mira Kiridzic-Bügler
Market Head Austria, Central & Eastern Europe bei Swiss Re
Let's talk about Bodily injury claims across Europe: This was the title of the virtual session to which Anja von Bodelschwingh, Swiss Re's Head Claims Northern, Central & Eastern Europe and Mira Kiridzic-Bügler, Market Head Austria, Central & Eastern Europ invited claims experts across Europe. More than 100 clients from 14 countries followed the invitation. Yolanda Gügler-Jocham, Claims Expert at Swiss Re, gave an update on the compensation for severe bodily injury claims in Spain based on the use of tables. Marie Devos talked about the situation in France where they don't work with tables but comprehensive law applies: full right of compensation irrespective of liability for pedestrians, cyclists and passengers. Tomasz Popielski, Manager Claims, STU ERGO Hestia S.A., Poland shared insights how different scenarios would be compensated in Poland. There are no tables in Poland, this is why compensation can vary greatly and older cases can also be compensated above insured sums.
In a very lively discussion moderated by Anja, Tomasz, Yolanda and Marie talked about what insurers need to consider when reserving claims given the annual uplift of compensation: Be prepared for worst and keep in mind factor like inflation/CPI that indicate how the compensation could develop. The Let's talk series has already become a tradition in the insurance industry. Against the backdrop of an increasing claims burden in Motor business, it will certainly be continued.

1 年Hi Mira, this sounds great. The regular exchange in cross border legislation is an important issue for a better understanding and settlement of bodily injury claims between different countries. Thanks for reporting about this interesting event!
