2/ ?? I enjoyed asking dr Ivona Tautkute-Rustecka (Ivona Tau) about the best tips she has received for staying motivated in her creative work.

"Everyone is an artist, but only artists know it" - phrase seen on the walls of contemporary art museum in vilnius. Gave me the courage to do art even though I haven't started the usual "artist" path."

3/ ?? Artist Highlight of the week:

Barnett Newman

This week I started MoMA course on the abstractive Impressionism and uncovered Barnett. One of the major figures in abstract expressionism and the color field painters.

Early Life and Career

- He started painting around age 30, after teaching, writing, studying, and working in his father’s menswear store.

- Newman destroyed much of his early work, deeming it unworthy. He considered his mature work to begin in 1944.

Artistic Development

- Pagan Void (1942): Created two years before he found his artistic direction. Influenced by Native American art and Surrealism, featuring biomorphic shapes.

- Onement, I (1948): Described as "the beginning of my present life." Introduced the "zip," a vertical line that became his signature. Created by applying a strip of masking tape over a crimson canvas and scumbling with cadmium orange.

Later Works

- The Voice: Larger canvases with minimal visible brushwork, contrasting with the gestural styles of his peers Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning.

- The Wild: A tall, narrow artwork featuring a prominent orange "zip" on a dark ground, resembling a sculpture more than a painting.

Recognition and Legacy

- Newman gained public acclaim in the 1960s, the last decade of his life.

- In 2014, his painting Black Fire I sold for a record $84,165,000 at Christie’s New York.
