Let's Talk AI

Today's newsletter is not about ChatGPT.
It is about how LinkedIn are using AI features for their users. Features that we can test and try out (usually with a Premium account).
I was watching The Dropout last night on Netflix. It's the story of Elizabeth Holmes (no spoilers.. I am on episode 5) and her company Theranos. Kidding. I know how it ends.
This is not about her or the story.
This is about the scene outside the Apple Store in California when they released the iPhone. I think it is around Episode 3. Elizabeth was a big fan of Steve Jobs.
The crowds are cheering.
I was watching it and thought - who in the world gets so excited about a new phone that not only do they go to try and be one of the first to purchase it, but they are CHEERING like their team just won all the golds at the Olympics.
Maybe you are like me, and you think, sure if it's that good, I'll get one soon enough.
Before all the tech-geeks start leaping on this, and I am one of those, I do get it. People get excited about different things! I like the analogy.
When I wanted to write about AI adoption on LinkedIn, this scene jumped straight into my head.
There are the early adopters. (did you know AI has been on LinkedIn for YEARS already.... those suggested prompts in your DMs? They are AI). They are so excited to start using this.
Most of us though, are not early adopters. We like to wait and see.
Let me share some ways you can use the AI features on LinkedIn and you can test them out for yourself.
** This is not about using third-party AI tools, of which there are hundreds **
What are the AI tools on LinkedIn today?
1 - Suggested Responses in your DMs.
These are written in different tones depending on how you are already speaking to the person you are messaging. This functionality has been around for quite a while, and is a pretty easy quick tool to use, especially if you are on mobile.
2. LinkedIn Premium Messaging Features on InMail
InMail is the premium messaging service on LinkedIn - you can send an InMail to any person on LinkedIn, depending on their own privacy settings.
领英推荐
Currently limited to InMail messages, this feature allows you to reach out to recruiters or new connections effortlessly.
The process includes selecting a profile, initiating the AI message, and customizing the auto-generated suggestion to suit your needs.
3. Rewriting your Posts and your Profile
A lot of the features are for Premium accounts only. The next one is an offer by the AI to rewrite your posts. This can be useful as a guide but I would use with caution.
This video shows you how it can rewrite your headline and your profile.
This is probably the main AI feature that people have noticed. You will see a little icon on someone's profile if they have used this - Profile enhanced with Premium
4. How AI can suggest Takeaways on your Posts
This is the one I find the most exciting. And yes, it is for Premium account users. I currently have TEN free trials of Premium Business accounts, so if you would like one and you will use it, let me know below.
We wrote about this on Louise Brogan Ltd - LinkedIn Content Marketing & Training earlier
If you are smart about how you mention your event, product or service in the post, it can feature in the AI takeaway. Like in the example below - this prompt came from a post about UpLift Live , a UK based LinkedIn focused conference which is returning next year (tickets are available)
Look at the second and third options - it is free marketing for your event!
What do you think?
Are you aware of all of these AI features on LinkedIn? Are you using them? Will you use them?
Microsoft are the owners of LinkedIn. They are also part owners of OpenAI. They are invested and so we will see more and more of these tools and features on LinkedIn. I am here for it! Are you?

6 个月It’s amazing how many computer programs are being called AI. They’re not and are far from it. It’s a great marketing ploy. Most of it doesn’t work that well. LinkedIn uses a method of adding subtitles to videos and it’s being called AI. It’s totally rubbish. There’s a long way to go before much of the so-called AI can be reliable.
