Let's take a new initiative this Diwali

Dear Indians

Like every year, again we all are eagerly waiting for our much awaited Diwali celebrations. However, this time, I want to convey my deep lying desires which many of us actually want to say, but refrain from it thinking of others' reactions. Yes, most of us feel that the festival of lights, the one which we Hindus believe to be the most pious is being commercialised as well as politicized. To be straightforward, I am talking about the system of gifts, yes those crockery which instantly flashes in your mind on just the mention of it and the mind starts visualising the pictures of people coming out with dozens and dozens of packed gifts showcasing how kind hearted they are in distributing gifts. Kind hearted? I know this word must have not gone down well. Don't worry, I also feel the same. Diwali celebrations has got limited to the formality of crockery distribution. We seem to have sacrificed our celebrations for booming the profits of those gift companies. And, here I am not just against those Chinese gifts, but Indian as well if it's again those crockery sets.

Remember how we used to celebrate Diwali in our childhood. Yes, we also gave gifts to each other and to our neighbours, but those were gifts of love and homemade food cooked, distributed and relished together?

We talk about saving water, animals and the whole environment for the betterment of our future generation which doesn't lie in one's individual hands, but still we try to do our bit. Why don't we also talk about saving those traditions, customs which need only love, understanding and a little effort to come out of the showoff world? I understand, we grow conscious. What would others say if we don't give a gift in return? My friend, do give in return, but only love, some homemade cookies and if possible spend some time together at lunch or dinner.

Friends, life is all about those little moments. Make every moment worth remembering. Running around distributing those glittery packets to those who don't even need it ( I am sure every house has it and those poor who don't have are not even asked for it, such an irony!) is just wasting one's energy, time and obviously those priceless moments which could have been spent together in celebrations.

We can't change everything what we crib about (yes, we all do at times). At least, let's start with these little things which can go a long way in making bigger changes. And, it will certainly make our children more humane, more connected and more sensitive towards others which is the need of the day.

Like others, I didn't request you to go out and start distributing gifts to the needy as I know connection with yourself and with your loved ones will make you do it yourself. First, find yourself, connect with your loved ones and then, make a move to do the charity work as charity starts at home and a person not happy with himself or herself can't make others as well.

Hope you like this initiative to connect people by heart by Wordbeatz and do your bit to save the beauty of love and togetherness which our nation has always been famous for.

Jai Hind and Happy Diwali in advance
