This week in Paris, I had the pleasure to represent the AXA Group at the launch of the foundation Femmes@Numerique.
The foundation, which setup was led by the Secretary of State for Digital Affairs, Mounir Mahjoubi, and strongly supported by the French Government, aims to tackle the gender gap in the tech industry, connecting companies, schools, universities, incubators and different networks to take concrete actions for making this sector a more inclusive one.
Through our collaboration with Femmes@Numerique, we want to shed new lights on the great achievements of women business owners and inspire women and young girls to be part of this journey. For AXA, this initiative is yet another great opportunity to confirm our commitment to empower women entrepreneurs develop their ideas and projects.
Women remain significantly underrepresented in tech compared to other industries. In France the number of women engineers has been decreasing over the past few years. This is not only a societal issue, as this underrepresentation can have serious consequences in the new machine age, recreating and even exacerbating gender biases we currently witness elsewhere.
By promoting more women throughout the pipeline, we are creating a virtuous circle towards a more inclusive society, taking into account everyone’s needs and expectations.
This is a continuity of our journey to empower women to live better protected lives. In the tech sector, we do our fair share by promoting women entrepreneurs and providing mentoring and support. For instance, in France, our teams have created specific MOOCs for women entrepreneurs on how to protect themselves from risks.
On March 8th, we launched our women accelerator program. We have now selected the 5 companies that will continue in our program. Stay tuned as we will be sharing more information in the next weeks.
We are thrilled to be part of Femmes@Numerique and hope this will be the beginning of a great journey to make the tech industry a fantastic field of opportunities for women.
