Friends, we all are living in a very tricky situation. On one side COVID-20 (I call it 20 as it has shown it's real effects in 2020) and on one side so many people loosing their jobs because of this.
When these people were our team mates, colleagues and working with you on same project, we together solved so many engineering problems, business problems. Now some of us are facing real life problems of not having monthly income, some of them were single source of income in the family.. some were under huge loans - housing/vehicle etc.. But now they are solving their problem alone.. When they were in the organization, we used to do team building activities, every organization has this saying of "one organization, one family" but now our family members are suffering. Is there a way we all together can stop this (layoffs)? or limit this at least?
Let's solve this problem together!
Suppose organization spends Rs. 100 on salaries of the 100 employees. After reorganization or layoffs, suppose it saves this cost (?) by 10-20%. So now organization has to spend Rs 80 on salaries of remaining 70-80 employees. In this case 20-30 employees loose all their monthly income and start looking for new opportunity, which may take weeks, days or years - depending on how situation turns out and in new organization also there might not be guarantee of NO layoffs. Many of our friends will (and are currently) come under tremendous pressure, some may take extreme steps also ( a posiblity which no one can deny!), some will pack up and go back to their home towns ( at least in Bharat), some will try, try and keep patience and try. Some may not have any problems as their spouse is still earning the bread for the family. Anything can happen.
Now, lets change above situation a little bit. Organization spends Rs. 100 on salaries of 100 employees. Organization want to save cost and asks employees the solution. All employees tells organization that we are ready to take pay cut till the situation becomes normal (as all are family members - remember "one organization, one family" or "we are one team, lets take this setback as a team together" attitude. Now organization thinks on this and accepts the offer - cuts 15-20% salary from each team member / employee- with this - organization has to spend Rs. 80-85 on salaries of all 100 employees. No one looses job, no one is under mental pressure, everyone is still together working as a team.. yes everyone has to take some impact but isn't it better than the first situation?
Now, you might say, this guy is thinking hypothetically. My answer is yes. I am thinking hypothetically but I am trying to solve the problem in a positive way. I urge the experts in the subject, organizations to think on these lines and solve this problem for every one.
Recently I posted a news fed about Wipro not laying off any employee. Can we take that as a case study? How are they managing this situation ? I understand that complexity and situation may be different for different organizations.. but lets try this?
Eager to hear from you all !
