Let’s Slow Down to Speed Up

Let’s Slow Down to Speed Up

We all crave that feeling of crushing our to-do list, ticking off tasks with laser focus, and leaving the office feeling like a superhero of efficiency. But here's the thing: sometimes, the fastest way to get ahead is to...slow down.

I know it sounds counterintuitive. We're trained to equate busyness with progress, to wear our hustle like a badge of honor. But research shows that the constant pressure to "go, go, go" can actually backfire. It can lead to decreased focus, and even more mistakes.

Think about it like this: have you ever tried to force a knot? The harder you pull, the tighter it gets, right? But if you take a step back, breathe, and approach it calmly, it often comes undone with ease. That's the magic of slowing down.?

So, what is the best thing about slowing down??

Refocus and prioritize-Take a break, step back and assess what's truly important, and tackle tasks with renewed clarity.

Boost creativity- Our brains need time to wander, to make unexpected connections. When we're always rushing, we miss out on those "wow!" moments that can make our day more productive.

Minimize errors- It helps you to be more mindful and meticulous, ensuring we get things right the first time.

How can we adopt this slower approach?

1.Get up, stretch, walk around, do some deep breathing. Even a few minutes can make a world of difference.

2. Before jumping into a new task, take a moment to plan, strategize, and set clear goals.

3. It's better to do one thing well than ten things poorly.

4. Don't be afraid to ask for help or politely decline tasks that overload your plate.

Slowing down isn't about slacking off; it's about working smarter, not harder. It's about creating the space for focused attention, creative breakthroughs, and sustainable productivity.?

Give it a try. You might be surprised at how much you can accomplish when you know - “When to slow down”.?

This reminded me of Morgan Housel's new book "Same as Ever" where he talks about how one should slow down and contemplate truths. + additional takeaway - learn how to say No.
