Let's remember who we are as Americans
The immigration issue is central to my personal experience
In the late 1700s, a member of Congress argued that the nation had no more room for immigrants. America has been rehashing that argument ever since, with the caricatures changing to accommodate each successive wave of newcomers.
I was born in southwest Ireland to a family of very modest means. Too often, I heard stories of fellow citizens who immigrated to the US to create new lives, then were accused of being lazy and unruly--criminals who only wanted to take jobs away from hardworking Americans.
Irish-Americans now make up about 10 percent of the US population and are regarded as major contributors to the country’s success.
Proponents of a cautious immigration policy raise valid points about carefully and efficiently vetting each newcomer. But unless you’re part of the small percentage of the US population who is Native American/Alaskan Native, everyone here is an immigrant or descended from one.
So let’s temper caution with respect for those who are brave and determined enough to risk everything to try to forge a new life here.

Michael Dowling earns?$7.6 million a yr, according to #Northwell spokesperson barbara osborn Mar 29, 2023?Northwell Holdings makes investments with $15.6 Billion to work with. A non-profit organization is?a group organized for purposes other than generating profit. Northwell Health has websites directing #Ukrainianimmigrants to "Fidelis Care using our tax dollars. “Fidelis Care Care/an MMCP?awards a $25,000 grant to Northwell Health. Michael Dowling donates to #PresidentVolodymyrZelenskyy. Is that “our money” being donated? Fidelis is a subsidiary of?Centene Corporation a Medicaid managed care?plan.
