Let’s Release the Potential of Women-Owned Businesses

Did you know up to £250 billion of new value could be added to the UK economy if women started and scaled new businesses at the same rate as UK men?

I have a huge issue with women being told to expect their business revenue will be small. As if it’s a hobby or something which doesn’t need to be taken seriously.

There is a huge gender bias against women creating wealth. Society’s expectation is that women won’t be seven figure business owners.

Think of the multilevel marketing or hobby businesses that keep their owners in perpetual poverty. With this background of low expectations, it is that much harder to feel like setting your sights on seven figures is a realistic endeavour.

And the reality of this is fewer female role models, fewer avenues of support and empowerment for women building their own companies at a high level. This is why I host the Seven Figure Consultant Podcast , to fly the flag for courageous women creating wealth and opportunities for themselves and others around them.

The playing field for small businesses doesn’t have to just be the micro-businesses that people so often associate with woman-owned businesses. The definition of a small business is a company earning less than 50 million, with less than 50 employees.

There is a whole spectrum of companies but as women entrepreneurs I think sometimes we talk about seven figures as if it’s the highest pinnacle out there, as if everything stops at one million. It is entirely feasible for ‘small businesses’ to go well into eight figure territory.

As women, we can help ourselves massively if we get comfortable with acknowledging the existence of businesses of this size, and raise the horizon of our expectations so that one million isn’t the cut off. It’s really just the beginning.

You can have a business that feels very ‘small’ and safe and yet turns over seven figures.

Did you know up to £250 billion of new value could be added to the UK economy if women started and scaled new businesses at the same rate as UK men? This was highlighted in the Rose Report on Female Entrepreneurship in the UK. It’s incredible to think of the change that could be made, not just to the women running those businesses, but to everyone they work with, their suppliers, and the businesses and organisations they support.

Business growth is all about personal growth and this means we need to grow ourselves and our mindset before we can grow our business.

You need to make peace with your desire to create a seven figure business. It isn’t unrealistic, it isn’t wrong. It is brave. It is a genuinely exciting thing you are allowed to do. You just have to give yourself that permission first.

Let me know in the comments, what’s the difference you would love to make with your seven figure business?
