Let's Be More Pragmatic: Act More, Talk Less.

Often, we don't achieve our goals because we don't know how to organize ourselves properly. To achieve what we set out to do, it's not enough to just think about it or wish for it; we need to take structured action.

The purpose of this article is to share some tips to increase our effectiveness. In other words, let's see how to be more pragmatic in our daily lives.

But first... What does it mean to be pragmatic?

Pragmatic relates to practice or the execution of actions, not theory. The term comes from the Greek "pragmatikos" and the Latin "pragmaticus," which means being "practical."

Generally, pragmatic people are capable of achieving significant goals in their lives. They find practical ways to meet their objectives and avoid taking poorly calculated or irrational risks.

We need to understand that for things to work correctly, a high level of commitment is required, and all necessary components must function properly. If you put this work philosophy into practice, you are already pragmatic.

Plans and processes exist for a reason; they are effective because they have been designed and tested to be so. Therefore, often the best thing we can do is stick to these processes and routines with the utmost firmness to achieve satisfactory results.

But... how can we be more pragmatic?

Here are some effective tips that have worked for me and that I implement daily to foster our level of pragmatism and achieve the best results in our projects.

? 1. Seek reliable information. The best way to ensure we are following a process correctly is to make sure our information source is reliable. This way, we get used to being more pragmatic by seeking useful information.

???? 2. Commit to your projects. To reach an acceptable level of pragmatism, you need to commit to the goal you want to achieve. Then, you can find the best ways to carry it out efficiently with a method that you can follow without major complications.

The motivation our goals generate is what drives us to achieve them. Motivation is what makes us follow a plan, process, or routine to reach that desired goal.

?? 3. Become a detective looking for evidence. When seeking a pragmatic method to achieve our goals, it is necessary to check if that method has been used in the past and what results it yielded in similar situations to ours.

This way, we avoid disappointments that demotivate us and cause us to give up on our projects. The best approach is to consider past experiences to carry out our plans.

???? 4. Share your ideas. When you come up with a new idea, it's ideal to share it with others who also have the same motivation for doing things pragmatically (practically and planned). This way, you get different points of view that allow you to reevaluate your project.

???? 5. Learn from mistakes. No one is free from making mistakes at some point. Even when we take precautions, something can always go wrong.

It is important to understand that this is a normal circumstance in life, and the best thing is to take the positive side of mistakes to avoid repeating them.

?????? 6. Assume that we are what we do. To accomplish our projects, it is not enough to desire them or say we will do them; we need to put them into practice. That's when we can start acting more efficiently in our lives. Action always surpasses desire, although ideally, they should go hand in hand.

?? 7. Avoid Conformity. Conformity is the silent enemy of pragmatism. When we start to settle frequently, our level of enthusiasm drops, and so does our capacity for action. To be pragmatic, you need to have aspirations and continually reinvent yourself.

?? 8. Set goals. When we set goals, we structure the objectives we need to meet. This means having a pragmatic mindset and action that allows us to be efficient.

Whether short, medium, or long-term goals, it is important to evaluate if they are viable to avoid frustration after investing significant time in them.

This is one of the easiest tips to follow on how to be more pragmatic because it is based on setting deadlines and defining concrete goals.

???? 9. Do not underestimate challenges. When we underestimate a significant moment for us, we sabotage ourselves. By downplaying something, our enthusiasm to accomplish it gradually decreases.

If we are not careful with this situation, it could happen that when we realize the matter is more important than we thought, it may be too late, and we won't have the opportunity to use any method to solve it.

? 10. Plan ahead. Time is a determining factor in planning goals. To achieve the results we expect, we need a structured and planned plan. The ideal is to start setting schedules for each action we need to take.

Of course, there are more factors to consider for being pragmatic. Personally, I have found success in implementing these ten and continually perfecting them. Remember, practice makes perfect. ??
