Let’s look at Milrem Robotics'career model.

Continuing my short series about #LifeatMilrem – let’s look into the company’s career model. If you missed the last intro post, you can find it here: https://www.dhirubhai.net/posts/milremrobotics_lifeinmilrem-career-people-activity-6967781985020723201-07IY?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop

I was positively surprised to find a really clear career model in Milrem Robotics' software department for all the different roles. For example, the positions start with Junior Software Engineer and end with Head of Software.

For each role there is defined:

  1. A list of required competencies, personal characteristics and responsibilities (a simple Confluence table)
  2. The salary range

?All this information, including the salary range, is available for all employees in the software department. They know where they are in the model and have a plan for where to focus next. So, if you want to advance to some other role you have to show you have these specific competencies/characteristics and are ready to handle the responsibilities.

On a regular basis, the team leads discuss the status with employees and the model is updated.

Next time I'm planning to take a look into the software teams and their responsibilities. However, there might be a bit longer gap between my posts as after only 2 weeks working at Milrem, it was perfectly fine for me to take a week of vacation, planned months ago, and spend some time with my father.
