Let's Keep on Learning
In Cool Company
In Cool Company unlocks human potential and super-charges organisational growth. In short, we elevate performance.
After spending a good chunk of time in primary, secondary, and potentially higher education, it’s understandable that we may then shift our focus from learning to doing.?
What’s becoming obvious though, is that much of what we learned in our ‘teens and our 20’s may well be completely out of date by the time we enter our 40’s. Organisations, technology, the environment, and the economy are all progressing so rapidly that we have no choice but to enhance our knowledge, or perhaps risk being left behind.?
But how might a manager or leader keep their skills up-to-date? At a recent networking event, a manager shared that they have managed the same team for the past 10 years. While the team have received developmental training during that time, she has not felt the same requirement, given her experience. We argued quite the opposite! Managers who are prepared to make themselves as dynamic as the revolutionary technologies around them are better able at supporting their teams to adapt and grow. Clearly, this requires learning of some kind.....?
Leaders and managers are witnessing their teams becoming more specialised every day. And while it is important for leaders to understand the nature of the team’s work in some detail, their primary role is to lead, direct, and inspire. Rather than learning technical specialism (help develop this expertise within the team), why not consider leadership development programmes to elevate impact and develop a more effective style??
As a 45-year-old, I was delighted to learn recently that the pre-frontal cortex, the region of the brain responsible for decision-making, critical thinking and long-term planning, continues to develop well into our 40’s. This prompted us to research other positive effects provided by learning after 40:?
As we move towards the start of the New Year, why not set yourself some learning goals for 2025 and experience these positive effects??
