Let's have a word about AI-generated imagery
Together with our Photographer Community, the creative Department of Westend61 is always looking for new and innovative ways to create unique and captivating content for our clients. Lately, the rise of generative AI images has kept us at the edge of our seats. On the one hand, we are strongly concerned about low-quality imagery flooding the stock photo market. We are interested in exploring AI's potential to enhance our creative process and push the boundaries of traditional stock photography.

The well-being of our photographers, business partners, clients, and the team is always above hasty decisions to catch up on trends. While we're excited about AI-generated content's possibilities, we remain cautious of the uncertainties regarding the ownership and copyright of AI-generated works. As a license-selling business, we always ensure our clients and contributors can be 100% about what's in for them. Therefore, we decided to further push the topic on the legal side of the matter before deciding what role AI-generated imagery plays in the future of Westend61.

However, this hasn't stopped us from experimenting with Generative AI in our creative process. We've created an AI playground where our creatives can explore and experiment with different AI models, algorithms, and techniques to generate new and unique content ideas. These experiments have allowed us to explore new possibilities and practices and understand the difficulties of working with tools such as #midjourney. At this moment, we believe that not everyone can develop a prompt to generate a modern, cool, and premium image that will take a campaign to success.
?We decided to publish the in-house generated imagery on a complementary Westend61 AI Instagram channel, our playground, to offer complete transparency of our future AI strategy. The images shown are test runs by the W61 Creative Department and are meant to inform and inspire. These are not images you will find on our webshop.

We'll let you know if and when we open our gates to AI imagery and under which quality conditions as soon as we are 100% clear on legal terms and sure that the offer meets the requirements of our portfolio.
