Let's Get a Kid to Camp

If anyone knows me well, they know that I loved going to summer camp as a kid, and this was because it was always the best week of the year for me. It was the unconditional love, care, positivity, hope and encouragement I received from the counselors that made all the difference in my life. Every year after returning from home into reality, you best believe that “camp high” and love was more than enough to keep me going to camp every single year. 

Only Lord knows, how drastically different my life would have been if I didn’t have the opportunity to attend camp. Heck, I couldn’t even fathom the individual that I would be today if it wasn’t for camp. It was the new memories, experiences, friendships, guidance, love that kept me pushing through all the hard times in life. This is why I am and always will be incredibly passionate about camp because I know the impact it provides others. 

I firmly believe that every kid, regardless of who they are, where they come from, or what they have done should deserve the opportunity to attend camp at least once during their childhood. And that is why one of my yearly goals is sponsoring a kid to attend camp.

This year I heard of a camp in Missouri called Camp David of the Ozarks that does camp for children of incarcerated parents. These kids are statistically, without any outside influence, the most likely of children to grow up into drug abuse, gang affiliation, mental disorder, or even to end up in prison themselves. That is why Camp David has sought after these kids to impact them positively year in and year out in order to give them a chance at a better life than the statistics and the rest of the world gives them. 

I urge you to join me in this movement this upcoming summer. Whatever you can give. Let’s get a kid to camp.You can be the difference of a kid experiencing hope, positivity and have the time of their life during some of the darkest times of their childhood.
