Building resilience is priority #1 for our partner in property claims

The Co-operators is raising awareness by working together and guiding our society towards working collaboratively to manage risk. This is the vision of the new national brand campaign launched earlier this week.

According to Rob Martin , senior director, corporate marketing for The Co-operators. "Issues like climate change, emotional wellness and distracted driving are important and complex societal issues that we are engaged in, but they are also beyond the capacity of any one person or institution to fix. Everyone from the federal government to individual homeowners has a role to play in making our communities more resilient, and our goal is to boost engagement and help find solutions."

Reducing the risk of flood damage

The Co-operators became the first Canadian insurer to offer overland flood insurance in 2015, which is now available in Alberta and Ontario. It was the first step in their ongoing response to the increasing risk of extreme weather in Canada. They continue to work with all levels of government so we can offer Comprehensive Water coverage across the country in 2017.

The pattern of extreme weather in Canada:

  • 2016 is shaping up to be one of the worst years on record for claims following the Fort McMurray wildfire
  • 2013 was Canada’s worst-ever year for weather-related damage:Severe flooding in southern Alberta, the costliest insured Canadian natural disaster ever, caused more than $1.72 billion in insured losses
  • Claim payouts from severe weather have doubled every five to ten years since the 1980s

Join the conversation and help build your better world.
