Let's fight together for a New Normal

Let's fight together for a New Normal

The current global pandemic experience is beyond anyone’s wildest imagination. Every facet of life, as we know it, has been turned upside down, requiring us to behave very differently. Yet, I find it hard to refer to this period as the “New Normal.” There is nothing normal about what we are experiencing. This is not what I aspire to for myself or anyone around me. This is not what I wish upon anyone. Labeling it the new normal, just feels defeatist to me.

It's time to fight. It's time to fight for one another, together! It is a time to fight for a new normal.

There is no doubt that life will probably never get back to the way things were. Maybe that is OK. We may even be able to emerge from this crisis as being better, stronger, more inclusive, more aware, and more considerate towards one another.

There are many categories along which the world is currently divided as a result of the pandemic. This message is only focused on one of the divides. The employment divide. The employment world is currently divided into two:

  1. Those of us that are fortunate enough to still be employed.
  2. People that have lost their jobs because of the pandemic.

IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY EMPLOYED...

Although you are currently employed, it is time for you to fight. It is time for you to fight for the survival of your organization.

Your family, friends, colleagues and customers, depend on your organization's ability to survive the dire economic climate that is upon us. Although I remain optimistic about the future, I truly believe that the economy is going to get worse before it gets better.

The number one thing that organizations need right now is CUSTOMERS.

OK fine...what every organization really needs is revenue (Sales). Without customers, there is no revenue. No matter what your role is in your organization, you need to be relentlessly customer obsessed. Find creative ways to do anything possible to help your customers. If you cannot sell something, find ways to strategically "give" something away.

Here are some practical ideas for how you can help your organization:

If you are currently employed, it is also an opportunity to take a moment to offer up some gratitude. WE just happen to be fortunate. There are millions of people that are experiencing the negative effects of the economy as a result of this unprecedented pandemic. It is up to us to reach out and help these people in any way possible. I am reminded of the lyrics of a great Diana Ross song:

Reach out and touch, Somebody's hand, Make this world a better place,
If you can!

IF YOU LOST YOUR EMPLOYMENT AS A RESULT OF COVID...

Losing your employment as a result of the pandemic really sucks. My heart bleeds with you. Hold your head high, this is not your fault. You are an unfortunate victim of circumstance. Have confidence in yourself and your network. It's time for you to fight. It's time for you to fight to get back on your feet.

If you are reading this and have been impacted by COVID, please feel free to reach out to me, if I can help in anyway. My network is your network, my resources are your resources.

Here are some practical things you can be doing:

LENDING A HELPING HAND

I am convinced that we are living through the largest crisis that most people will experience in their lifetime. The only way for us to emerge from this stronger and better, is to do it together.

Here are some practical things that we can be doing:

As the world economy enters an unprecedented crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we cannot only rely on Governments around the world to solve the crisis. We can start a micro-movement of helping one another. We can play our little part to help create the world we want to live in, and be proud to call: The New Normal.

We can start by helping people in our very own networks.

Lets do this!

We are the sum of our life’s experiences. Throughout my life, I have been fortunate to have learned some lessons about humanity, and I have applied those lessons to leadership. I am sharing them with the hope that it can make a positive impact on someone, somewhere—starting with my two daughters.
