I am writing this to make you aware about a disease which is often not looked as a disease but if is affecting a big part of population and spreading more in the days of modernization.
Overview given to depression by WHO: Depression is a common illness worldwide, with more than 300 million people affected. Depression is different from usual mood fluctuations and short-lived emotional responses to challenges in everyday life. Especially when long-lasting and with moderate or severe intensity, depression may become a serious health condition. It can cause the affected person to suffer greatly and function poorly at work, at school and in the family. At its worst, depression can lead to suicide. Close to 800 000 people die due to suicide every year. Suicide is the second leading cause of death in 15-29-year-olds.
Lack of human connect has created mental issues which are far bitter and life threatening than sadness, i realized this when i was advised to visit a psychiatrist by my doctors, i could never accept such thing so before going to a psychiatrist, i searched a lot about it, and here i want to mention about causes, signs and remedies for cure of depression:
GENERAL CAUSES OF DEPRESSION
1.Genetics
Yes, like various other health issues it can be a hereditary issue, so if anyone in your family showed signs of depression, there are chances that you might face it too but it is not in all cases.
2.Brain Chemistry Imbalance
Depression is believed to be caused by an imbalance in the neurotransmitters which are involved in mood regulation, such depression is also termed as clinical depression
3.Hormone imbalances
Worldwide, as compared to men, women suffer depression twice than men, this is because of hormonal imbalances that affect their mood badly..
4.Poor Nutrition
A poor diet can contribute to depression in several ways. A variety of vitamin and mineral deficiencies are known to cause symptoms of depression.
5.Physical Health Problems
Bad health can lead to depression as well, as body and mind are linked and any illness in body might cause depression.
6.Drugs
Drugs and alcohol can contribute to depressive disorders. But, even some prescription drugs have been linked to depression. Some drugs that have been found to be associated with depression include anticonvulsants, statins, stimulants, benzodiazepines, corticosteroids, and beta-blockers.
7.Stressful Life Events
When you are unable to cope up with life events, you might end up getting depressed and situation can get worse if it doesn't get treated.
8.Grief and Loss
Following the loss of a loved one, grieving individuals experience many of the same symptoms of depression. Trouble sleeping, poor appetite, and a loss of pleasure or interest in activities are a normal response to loss. This can be general sadness but if you suffer for a long period you need to get it checked.
SPECIFIC CAUSES CONTRIBUTING TO DEPRESSION:
I found these as causes when i consulted with doctor,as i was suffering from hypothyroidism and vitamin B12 and D3 deficiency and when i researched, i got a full page blog about the same which can be other causes than the general once for depression, and if left untreated can result in life threatening conditions:
1. Leaky gut: Leaky gut is clinically known as increased intestinal permeability or hyperpermeability, a condition in which food is allowed to pass through the small intestinal lining. Substances leak into the bloodstream that shouldn’t be there, causing bloating, gas, and sometimes mood disturbances.
2. Sleep disorders: We’ve always known that depression causes interruptions in sleep, and that a lack of sleep makes persons more susceptible to mood disorders. But studies now show that sleep problems can cause mood disorders and that sleep deprivation can rewire the brain’s emotional circuits.
3. Hypothyroidism: Since most psychiatrists and primary-care physicians don’t run a full thyroid panel, I see a number of patients who have undiagnosed hypothyroidism, an underactive thyroid, which causes symptoms of fatigue, apathy, and depression.
4. Low vitamin D and B-12: These are the two most common nutrient deficiencies for my patients who have depression symptoms. Both vitamin D and B-12 are essential for positive mood.
*SIGNS OF DEPRESSION:
Signs of depression are often overlooked as sadness which causes issues to mental and physical health, these are needed to be checked and treated but sadly most people are not even aware about their condition, following are few signs and symptoms of depression:
- Feelings of emptiness, hopelessness, despair, and sadness
- Irritability, anxiousness, and guilt
- Feelings of exhaustion, severe tiredness
- Loss of interest in previously pleasurable activities
- Inability to concentrate or remember details
- Suicidal thoughts or attempts of suicide
- Sleep disturbances; sleeping too much or too little, insomnia
- Changes in appetite – eating too much or too little
- Physical symptoms – aches and pains, cramps, headaches, digestive issues, breast tenderness, bloating
- Lack of energy
- Feeling out of control
- Mood swings and feelings of tearfulness
- Panic attacks
- Feelings of tension
- Disinterest in daily activities and relationships
Just because you have one or more signs does not mean you are suffering from depression, it may be general sickness and sadness, talk with friends and family and your loved ones about it, about how you feel, but if the condition never improves or you have those specific health concerns, visit a doctor as soon as possible.
+TREATMENT FOR DEPRESSION:
Besides taking medicines prescribed by your doctor, you can opt for followings to cure depression:
*Meditate
*Talk about it: as most people just become more silent and they do not want to discuss about it, you need to understand that it is a general condition these days, though i know how it feels, you have go out and talk to those you trust.
*Eat healthy food.
*Exercise, as a health body is a source of healthy mind.
*Take medicines on time if you have any health issues like hypothyroidism, vitamin deficiencies, hormonal imbalances etc.
*Stay connected: There are many social groups where you can talk to people who have cured such condition or are in a process to cure.
*Find interest and hobbies: Do not sit idle, i know nothing seems of interest but you need to push yourself harder, find some hobby and do it regularly.
*Feel good about life: I know it seems that nothing good is left in life but you are alive and you cannot be hopeless, somewhere there must be something which is good for you, you just need to be not so negative, read good books and watch your favorite shows.
And remember: ''You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it"
There is no overnight cure for depression you have to keep fighting and if you know such person who is fighting depression, or in a similar condition, HELP THEM, believe me, 'THEY NEED YOU'
Thank you.
Also let me know your views on the same.
