Let's end the stigma about MENTAL HEALTH


Going to a Counselor or Therapist when you're feeling sad or overwhelmed should be as normal as going to DOCTOR when you have the FLU. Poor physical health can lead to an increase risk of developing mental health problems. Similarly, poor mental health can negatively impact on physical health of a person and can cause certain issues in your personal and professional Life.You or may be someone you know has been through the mental health issues but couldn’t find a reliable treatment for it. Resulting, minor depression has resulted into 450 million mental health cases in the world. This whopping high number includes- brain condition, severe depression, hypertension, etc. 

5 Ways to Beat the Stigma about Mental Health

People often go through tough times, disturb their mental health and later blame it on the circumstances. And this has been only increasing the number of sufferers so far.

  1. To overcome such unfavorable health conditions, here are a few ways to kick-off the stigma of mental health- Discuss Mental Health- “What mental health needs is more sunlight, more candor, and more unashamed conversation.” – Glenn Close. No matter what, make sure you talk about it with anyone you feel comfortable with. It can be your childhood friend, mother, neighbor or a colleague. Until you won’t share it, moving to the next step of treating it is impossible.
  2. Be Conscious About Your Language- In case someone around you have been going through tough times, make sure you use positive tone & handle them with utmost patience. Although, it can be a bit mundane or off-beat to a part of sadistic conversations but at the same time, remember you are helping to overcome which they have been afraid of all their lives.
  3. Undergo Treatment- People often feel shame to talk about it thus avoid consulting a practitioner for the same. But they fail to understand the need of associating with a psychiatrist while worsening the circumstances to a huge extent. It is not a taboo to avoid talking about instead everyone must discuss it and then take treatment for it.
  4. Educate Yourself and Others Too- There is a specific studies on mental health which help people aware themselves about its basic symptoms or causes. If not more, sparing a few hours and leaning all the ins and outs of this concept can uplift your spirit to bring a change in someone’s life.
  5. Treat Mental Health As Important As Physical Health- Physical health issues are considered important to be treated where mental health is still ignored by many. Somewhere it has become another major reason behind the increased mental health cases all around the world.

In the beginning, it may seem difficult to understand and talk about, but at the same time, it is important to open up about the circumstances you have been facing or getting depressed due to. This can be considered as the first step towards breaking the stigma of mental health. 

The best you can do is join hands with an experienced psychiatrist who can help you with sound advice.
