Affirmation is positive encouragement. It's normal to feel embarrassed while hearing or saying affirmations for the first time. But it benefits your brain and life.
Daily affirmation, whether spoken, written, or thought, can help you overcome negative ideas and shift your perspective to a more optimistic one. In addition to eliminating negative ideas, this will encourage you and increase your self-esteem.
Believe it or not, neurobiology( NeuroScience) is at the root of it!
We've all seen how self-help books always preach about how positive thinking and a positive approach may transform one's life. They're not wrong, either, because science backs them up.
What happens in our brains when we practice affirmations on a daily basis, according to a study published in the journal Social Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience. MRI was utilized to discover that practicing self-affirmation activates the brain's reward centers, the ventral striatum (VS) and ventromedial prefrontal cortex (VMPFC). To put it another way, these are the same reward centers that react to other joyful experiences like eating your favorite food or earning a prize.
"Many studies have demonstrated that these circuits may do things like decrease pain and help us maintain equilibrium in the face of threats," said lead researcher Christopher Cascio.
As a result, practicing self-affirmation can help you activate the parts of your brain that make you cheerful and optimistic.
How can you get started with self-affirmation?
Yes, I understand how difficult it is to simply sit down one day and begin thinking and speaking about the positive aspects of your life. It takes a lot of practice. But how do you do it?

Contrary to popular opinion, self-affirmation can inspire you, but only if you have high self-esteem.
A 2009 study found that present-tense positive affirmations boosted high self-esteem but lowered poor self-esteem. The researchers discovered that those with poor self-esteem who uttered present-tense positive affirmations (“I am...”) felt worse than people who made positive comments but were also permitted to evaluate how wrong they might be.
So, if you have poor self-esteem, reminding yourself how awesome you are won't help since you don't believe it.
