For those who may not know me, my name is Wataru Kurimoto , and I am the new CEO of Coach U. I would like to welcome you to this community and take this opportunity to introduce myself and share with you about the future of Coach U.?

MY FIRST ENCOUNTER WITH COACH U

I am proud and grateful to be involved in Coach U's business, because I met coaching through fate, and it has had a very significant impact on my life.

Let me share with you a little bit more about my first encounter with coaching which was 20 years ago.

Previously, I was a computer engineer. My career was smooth sailing as I worked many times harder than others, and climbed the corporate ladder quickly. At least, that's what I believed until one particular day.

That particular day was full of conducting review interviews with my direct reports. After several hours, it was time for a meeting with the direct report that I was supposed to be taking care of the most.

In hindsight, he had, from the very beginning, a somewhat pensive look on his face.

But I didn't let that bother me. I told him that the team was able to achieve the best results, and mentioned that this was both the result of his contribution and my contribution as the manager. I assumed that he would understand.

But shortly after, I received a response that was completely unexpected. He said,

"I think what you do as a manager is always right. But, I cannot keep up with you. This is because you make me feel worthless and miserable."

I remember being terribly upset.

Hadn't we just accomplished a difficult project? What could cause so much satisfaction? There can't be anything wrong with me.

On my way home that day, feeling confused, I ran head-first into a bookstore and came across a book on ""coaching"". This was my first encounter with coaching and the catalyst for my change.

THE IMPLICATIONS OF COACHING

I immediately signed up for a Coach Training Program, and every part of the coaching learning experience was refreshing for me.

• What does it mean to care about the person in front of you?
• How can I express that through communication?
• What am I feeling now, and where does it come from?

As an engineer, coaching was truly a cross-cultural experience for me. It was certainly an experience that started to change something inside me. More and more people around me became interested in coaching, and more people started learning about it.

After taking the Coach Training Program, I was approached by COACH A , a sister company of Coach21 that specializes in corporate coaching, and began my career as a professional coach.

The experience of learning coaching has given me the opportunity to reclaim my fundamental humanity.

"If everyone in the world had the opportunity to learn coaching..."? is something I often imagine.

Coaching creates richer relationships at home, at work, in communities, and in society. It opens up the possibility of highly engaged workplaces, a society that moves from fragmentation to cooperation, and the expansion of potential for such people and organizations.

Through Coach U's activities, I dream of a society in which the power of coaching is effectively utilized by people around the world.

COMMITMENT TO COACH U

Since its establishment in 1992, Coach U has produced many talented coaches around the world. When I think about the accomplishments of all the trail-blazers and the history of Coach U, I am in awe.

As CEO, I will continue to make Coach U a company of choice by providing high quality coaching programs to clients who seek the real deal. I will also remain flexible and adaptable to the ever-changing social environment, and infuse innovation into Coach U's services, which are supported by its history and proven track record, to create new client experiences.

COACH U'S CHANGING FUTURE

Coach U will be launching new initiatives, one step at a time, towards change. We look forward to sharing the details of these initiatives with you through messages like this and through the website.?

Some of the changes we will be undertaking in the next few months:

• We are forming an Advisory Team to bring a broad range of industry knowledge and innovative perspectives to Coach U's business and management. The members of the Team will be introduced via the website.
• We are currently looking for early adopters for our new coaching program for organizational development. Thousands of people have already experienced the program and we are working on further improvements, so please look forward to the release of more information in the near future.
• We will begin research, experimentation, and development of coaching services that use digital technology, for improving 1-on-1 communication skills. We will share information about introductory webinars, and other related events will be listed on the website for your review.??

We will continue to update you on our initiatives as Coach U continues to grow, and we look forward to sharing the journey together with you.?
