Let's be constellation of hope creators!

The scientist, Brian Cox, was asked to do a 1-minute talk to world leaders at the COP26 Summit in Glasgow in 2021. He said:

“It’s possible, at least, that this is the only place where complex biology has emerged in our galaxy. If that’s true, this is the only island of meaning in a galaxy of 400 billion suns; and you are responsible for it because you are the world leaders. Therefore, if you destroy it through deliberate action or inaction, then each of you would be personally responsible for destroying meaning in the galaxy of 400 billion suns, potentially forever.” ?

Punchy, right?! Maybe, we start flooding world leaders with that each day.

We may not be world leaders, but as problem-solvers committed to taking action, for this island of meaning in a galaxy of 400 billion Suns, I want us to intentionally frame what we do on a daily basis like this:

When we create the conditions for new ideas, we create the conditions to birth new signals of hope.

Yep, read it again…birth new signals of hope.

It’s an extraordinary thing to be part of, the moment of fusion where someone’s creativity sees a problem as an opportunity and they take the risk on creating a solution.

Every time that we intentionally make space for ourselves and those around us, to see things differently, to come home to the problems that we’re in-love with solving, we open up the infinite grace of our creativity.

I have this lovely image of us, as a collective, consciously and joyfully seeing new signals pop into existence, entangled into constellations of hope, ever expanding.

Try this at home

1. Think about the week ahead, ask yourself, "Where are the spaces where I might have the opportunity to create the conditions for new signals of hope to spark into life?"
2. Consciously identify for yourself and others, the possible signals.
3. Record them on sticky notes.
4. Stick them somewhere visible.
5. Aim for 3 a day.
6. Celebrate them together at the end of the week.
