Let’s all Go Red to fight heart disease in Washington

At Regence BlueShield, we believe in investing not just in the health of our members but of the communities we serve. Our focus is on helping people lead healthier lives.

It’s one of the reasons why I am so excited to be the chair of the American Heart Association’s 2022 Puget Sound Go Red for Women campaign. When we think about improving the health of our community, it doesn’t get more critical than cardiovascular disease. It’s the #1 killer of women both here in Washington and across the country, claiming more women’s lives than all forms of cancer combined.

Go Red for Women, which culminates here in Puget Sound with the Go Red luncheon on March 14, is the AHA’s signature women’s initiative, bringing our community together to highlight the work and efforts to end heart disease and stroke in women. First and foremost, we want women to know that cardiovascular disease is the greatest threat to their health and there are healthy habits we can all adopt to reduce our risk. Awareness, information, and engagement are ways our Go Red campaign leans in to improve the health of our community.

Leading Go Red here in the Puget Sound is also personal to me. Years ago, I was diagnosed with a condition called supraventricular tachycardia, which?causes a faster than normal heart rate that can prevent proper blood flow to the body. My personal situation is thankfully relatively benign, but the risk of heart problems is an issue I take very seriously and of which I am honored to spread awareness in the community.
