Let your presence speak for you.
Going to a conference soon? Here are 3 tips to help you own the room.
PS, this is based on my recent experience at Black Tech Week (July 2024)
PSS, these tips work for introverts, too.
Now let's get into it ??
1. Know Your Why
Some people attend conferences to land a higher paying job, get new clients AND find their husbands... That's fine, but please choose one goal to focus on. Doing so allows others to easily help you! Once you know your goal, perfect your pitch. Then, set your lock screen as your QR code to make it easy for others to connect with you.

2. Wear Your Sunday’s Best
I don’t care what anyone says, dressing nice is a conversation starter and confidence booster. Good thing is, we've been freed from the shackles of boring professional clothes. Opt for brighter, more playful looks. If you don’t have the fanciest clothes, wear something nice above the neckline. This could be a cool hairstyle, chandelier earrings, a broche, etc.
Trust me, it gets the conversation going and helps others to remember you.
3. Take Every Opportunity
My only “regret” from BTW was not introducing myself to the guy who made BBL Drizzy. I wasn't sure how I could add value to him, so I decided to walk away once the panel ended. As I journeyed to the next session, I remembered that I add value simply by existing. So, I shook off the "shyness" and decided to introduce myself to the next speaker. During Q&A, I asked a relevant question (which lead to several inquiries about my business), and introduced myself once the speech was done. I made so many connections by choosing to speak up!
Taking the chance is always worth it.
Conferences can be fun! But it can also be overwhelming when you're surrounded by hundreds of people. I hope these tips boost your confidence and help you own the room! Please add any of your personal tips in the comment section. ??
