Let Your PowerPoint Support You

Let Your PowerPoint Support You

Imagery.

It’s very important for your presentations.

You should be able to tell stories or describe certain scenarios in great, vivid detail…

If you want them to have a huge impact on your audience.

But you know what’s even better than painting a picture with your words?

Showing actual pictures that support your speech!

This is why I always encourage speakers to include images in their presentations…

…instead of only putting in blocks of text.

It would be great for you to have graphs, tables, and pictures to illustrate the things you’ll be talking about.

And if you do have some slides that are a bit text-heavy…

I suggest you make use of tools like highlights and animation to make them more impactful.

Here’s one way to do it:

Let’s say you want to talk about three concepts.

But you only have them listed in your PowerPoint as a bulleted enumeration, like:

  • Big Concept #1
  • Big Concept #2
  • Big Concept #3

That’s fine.

But you might want to set your slides up so that when you’re talking about the first big concept…

Its bullet point in the enumeration is animated, or at least highlighted.

Then, when you move on to the next big concept…

The second bullet point would be the one in highlights or moving around.

Doing this will help your audience better follow what you’re talking about.

After all, they will instantly know what concept you’re currently on…

And they’ll also know when you’ve moved on to the next one.

This is what I mean when I say your PowerPoint should support your speech.

That’s why they’re called visual aids…

They’re supposed to aid you in delivering your message in a clear manner.?

So, whether you’re thinking of adding pictures…

Animating certain slides…

Or highlighting certain words or phrases in your PowerPoint…

Go do it.

Reinforce the imagery in your speech with actual images as you go along the presentation!

Cheers,

Carmen
