Let Your Inner Voice Drive Your Strategic Choices
These days, there is too much noise of management training and leadership education, peer group behaviour patterns, corporate desirability trends and experts blaring at you from social media platforms.
Kālidāsa, the 3rd century poet and philosopher teaches an important leadership lesson: “It is impossible for your true inner drive to lead you astray.”
In Kālidāsa’s classical play Abhij?āna-?ākuntalam, there is an interesting scene where the hero talked about his inner conviction going against the voices of accepted wisdom. There lies an important leadership lesson.
King Du?yanta fell in love with ?akuntalā* at first sight and he decided to propose to her without wanting to know of her background and circumstances.
Kālidāsa assigned an intriguing verse to Du?yanta at that time for him to declare his commitment and conviction in his decision.

Loosely translated, the verse says, “My desire to marry ?akuntalā comes from the depth of my being. Therefore, I have no doubt that she is the right person to be my life partner. I know that because it is impossible for my true inner drive to lead me astray.”

Du?yanta remained committed for life to his only love despite the ensuing challenges.
The Sanskrit term used in the verse for inner self is Anta?kara?a. If one were to transfer Kālidāsa’s wisdom to our times, it would be: “when one is faced with a dilemma or doubt in making life changing choices or strategic leadership decisions, one should be finally led by their Anta?kara?a, after all modern analytical tools, management models and overwhelming data have been considered.”
May you swim through it all. May the investor, the CEO, the strategist and the leader in you discover your Anta?kara?a and listen to your inner voice.

1 年I agree with you, there is so much noise it's impossible to know what your intuition is even saying. I am interested to know if there are any strategies you use to help you tune into what your intuition is saying? My take on the lack of nurturing and tuning into intuition is that it's hard to measure and in a world that is obsessed with output and being in a constant state of production, it looks better to have another qualification after your name than to stop, listen and wait for what your inner being knows is true. I am yet to meet someone who's intuition whispered to them "do another course" ??
